Job description

Position Overview

The Northeast State Community College is seeking a Biology Faculty member to join its Science Department as a 9-month faculty employee. The selected candidate will report to the Dean of Science and is responsible for delivering approximately 15 teaching hours per semester covering biology and human anatomy and physiology through various modalities such as in-person, online, hybrid, or web-enhanced formats. The appointment commences in August 2026.

Salary

Compensation ranges from $46,502 to $58,128 annually for candidates with a Master’s degree and from $52,734 to $65,917 annually for candidates holding a PhD, dependent on experience. Included benefits can be detailed using the institution’s Total Compensation Calculator.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Submit required reports such as attendance and grades punctually.
  • Conduct annual performance evaluations and maintain related documentation.
  • Instruct assigned courses through multiple modalities including on-ground, online, hybrid, or web-enhanced.
  • Teach at varying times and locations including evenings, weekends, off-campus sites, dual enrollment, and distance learning.
  • Participate in curriculum development and review for departmental courses.
  • Engage with transfer institutions, professional bodies, and external entities to enhance student success.
  • Assess and track progress towards goals at individual and department levels.
  • Maintain effective communication with all relevant stakeholders.
  • Fulfill instructional obligations including generating a minimum of 300 student credit hours per semester.
  • Engage in faculty development, peer and self-evaluations, and submit syllabi and examinations to the Dean.
  • Supervise labs and other instructional activities responsibly.
  • Collaborate with library staff for resource curation.
  • Participate actively in departmental and faculty meetings, assignments, and committee work.
  • Assist in budget preparation, resource purchasing, and professional travel proposals.
  • Provide academic advisement and contribute to recruitment and marketing.
  • Comply with all institutional deadlines and policies to ensure smooth operation.

Curriculum and Administrative Responsibilities

  • Develop new courses and recommend modifications or discontinuance as necessary.
  • Advise students on departmental matters with the Advising Resource Center.
  • Manage budget requests, equipment oversight, and maintenance needs.
  • Contribute to grant proposals and special project preparations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Possession of a Master’s Degree in Biology or a Master’s Degree with at least 18 graduate hours in Biology from an accredited institution by the time of appointment.
  • One year of teaching experience in biology lectures or labs at secondary or post-secondary levels.
  • Experience with curriculum or course development.
  • Competency in instructional technology, including online teaching tools and mobile devices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary teaching experience.
  • Ability to teach multiple biology, science, or health-related courses.
  • Conversational or fluent skills in a second language.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), videoconferencing platforms, digital records management, operating systems, and data systems.
  • Ability to effectively engage with diverse student academic levels.

Additional Information

  • Qualified candidates must be capable of teaching biology and human anatomy courses.
  • Position may require occasional travel to off-campus teaching locations.
  • Teaching duties are expected to commence in January 2025.
