Position Overview

The Behavioral-Educational Interventionist I (BEI I) supports students in meeting their academic and behavioral objectives through direct instructional assistance and supportive interventions in school. The role involves planning for, documenting, and tracking daily student behaviors specifically for those enrolled in CARES School. The position reports to and receives guidance from Behavior Educational Consultants and program leadership.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Build positive rapport with students and consistently communicate and uphold positive classroom expectations
  • Engage with students constructively, fostering participation and recognizing accomplishments
  • Clearly demonstrate and enforce appropriate boundaries between children and adults
  • Join students in play activities when suitable
  • Aid teachers in implementing lesson plans and managing classroom behavior
  • Provide individualized encouragement and support to students as necessary
  • Accurately document behavioral observations following prescribed forms and protocols
  • Maintain calm composure during challenging or stressful incidents
  • Support students struggling to maintain appropriate conduct
  • Apply the least restrictive de-escalation methods before resorting to Emergency Safety Interventions (ESI)
  • Participate fully in post-ESI debriefings to minimize trauma for students and staff

Qualifications

  • At least two years of experience working in mental health or educational environments with children having educational, communication, or behavioral challenges
  • Bachelor’s degree in a behavioral health discipline preferred
  • Proficient in English for reading, writing, speaking, and professional therapeutic communication
  • Minimum age of 21 years
  • Valid Mississippi driver's license and eligibility to be insured by the organization’s provider
