Role Overview

The Bluffton, Indiana plant is expanding, and this is an opportunity to join a growing pretzel production team. The Dot’s Pretzels brand has grown significantly, creating the need for additional team members at the Bluffton location.

Shift Details

  • Night shift positions are available.
  • Schedules run for 12 hours, from 7:00 pm to 7:00 am.
  • Employees work 3 to 4 days per week.
  • The schedule follows a 2-2-3 rotation: 2 days on, 2 days off, 3 days on, 2 days off, 2 days on, then 3 days off.

Job Summary

Bakers begin the pretzel-making process. The role involves operating a large mixer and extruder using computer-based controls and manual measuring methods. Prior machine operating experience is essential, and experience in a large bakery environment is an added advantage.

Key Duties

  • Work according to standard operating procedures to maintain steady product quality.
  • Identify and manage different dough textures.
  • Keep hoppers supplied with the correct amount of dough.
  • Measure minor ingredients accurately by taking catch samples.
  • Monitor dough temperature.
  • Inspect the flour sifter at the start of each shift.
  • Verify that drives, cookers, salters, ovens, dryers, discharge systems, and proofing conveyors are functioning correctly and set properly.
  • Track cuts per minute as required.
  • Check and document caustic readings every 30 minutes in BakerQC.
  • Check and record wet weights and lengths every 30 minutes in BakerQC.
  • Enter inventory movements in S4 Hana.
  • Record all ingredient lot numbers.
  • Maintain the salter at the correct fill level.
  • Alert leads, QA, and packers when defective product is found and communicate how long it is expected to last.
  • Keep the immediate supervisor informed of any issues.
  • Carry out any additional duties assigned by supervision or management.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old at the time of hire.
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • At least one month of related experience or training is needed.
  • The role requires the ability to read and understand straightforward instructions.
  • Basic math skills are needed, including adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing whole numbers and decimals.

Preferred Background

  • Experience in manufacturing or food manufacturing is preferred.
  • Helpful experience includes GMP, SQF, autonomous or preventive maintenance, continuous improvement, and warehouse systems such as SAP or LPR.

Physical and Work Conditions

  • The position is in a standard manufacturing setting.
  • Employees must be physically capable of performing the job duties.
  • Standing and walking are frequent parts of the work.
  • Occasional lifting or moving of up to 50 pounds is required.
  • Safety equipment may be required or recommended, including eye protection with side shields, hearing protection, and hair or beard nets.
