Job Purpose
This role monitors and operates various plant systems such as the Boiler, Turbine, Generator, Balance of Plant (BOP), switchyard, and transformers to ensure efficient functioning. It involves responsibility for start-up and shut-down procedures, managing emergencies, overseeing Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) operations, maintaining equipment integrity, fostering energy conservation, and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and operate critical plant systems including Boiler, Turbine, Generator, BOP, electrical systems, switchyard, and transformer areas.
- Execute start-up and shut-down procedures and routinely change over equipment while conducting emergency drive trials.
- Respond effectively to plant emergencies involving Boiler-Turbine-Generator systems and switchyard/grid disruptions, ensuring safe isolation and recovery of equipment.
- Manage Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) system operations and maintain accurate logbooks for plant parameters.
- Promote energy-saving measures focusing on specific oil consumption, auxiliary power consumption, demineralized water use, and heat rate optimization.
- Monitor key chemical parameters to maintain environmental compliance and efficient plant performance.
- Ensure adherence to institutional guidelines (IMS, AWMS, DISHA, CHETNA), safety protocols, permit to work systems, and SOPs.
- Report defects or operational issues promptly to the shift in charge.
- Drive digitization and automation initiatives to improve operational efficiencies and implement new technologies and processes.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a related discipline from a recognized institution.
- At least 6 years of experience in thermal power plant operations.
- Preferred experience in the power generation industry specifically with thermal power plants.
