Job description
Job Overview
The Area Head for Gold Loans plays a pivotal role in steering the execution of business strategies within the designated region. This role encompasses advancing asset growth, profitability, loan portfolio quality, and operational governance. The leader will manage targets related to Assets Under Management (AUM), disbursements, profit and loss, branch expansion, and regulatory compliance through effective team leadership.
Scope and Scale
- Establish new partnerships with various stakeholders including enabling functions and regional associates to drive gold loan growth.
- Lead a team comprising multiple branch heads, managing distributed branch operations within the area.
- Develop comprehensive business plans, manpower structures, and productivity goals that align with national directives.
- Ensure strict adherence to all applicable regulatory requirements.
- Conduct regular monitoring of portfolio performance and stay updated with market trends.
Context and Major Challenges
Aditya Birla Capital Limited (ABCL), a leading Systematically Important Non-Deposit accepting NBFC registered with the RBI, holds a pan-India presence with a lending book of approximately Rs. 139,500 Crores. ABCL caters to diverse customer segments with a broad spectrum of loan products and boasts high credit ratings and multiple industry awards.
The core challenge involves translating regional gold loan strategies into actionable plans that ensure rapid growth while maintaining risk discipline. Key difficulties include balancing expansion with strict Loan-to-Value (LTV) ratios amid volatile gold prices, achieving zero-compliance deviations across numerous branches, mitigating fraud and security risks, improving underperforming branches, managing costs effectively, and safeguarding branch reputation by delivering transparent and respectful customer service.
Key Responsibilities and Result Areas
- Drive sustainable growth in AUM, disbursal, active customers, market share, and maintain appropriate ticket sizes and growth mix between new and renewal loans.
- Manage profitability metrics including net interest margin, yield on loan portfolio, cost-to-income ratio, operating profit, and returns on assets and equity.
- Maintain superior portfolio quality by tracking GNPA/NNPA, delinquency levels, LTV adherence, auction losses, fraud incidence, and recovery rates.
- Enhance branch productivity by opening new branches as per plan, reducing break-even time, optimizing AUM and disbursement per branch and per Relationship Manager, and reducing low performing branches.
- Boost sales efficiency and customer acquisition, monitoring cost of acquisition, conversion ratios, repeat customer ratios, and upselling performance.
- Achieve full compliance with RBI and internal audit observations, gold purity testing, documentation accuracy, and zero tolerance breach incidents.
- Lead and develop people by reducing attrition, minimizing vacancy turnaround times, ensuring succession readiness, increasing training coverage, and improving productivity post-training.
Reporting Structure
Direct reports include Branch Managers for Gold Loans, with possible oversight of Gold Valuation Managers, Gold Loan Officers, and Customer Service Executives during Branch Manager absence.
