Role Overview
The Account Director is a senior client-facing leader responsible for keeping work, people, and business moving in the right direction. This person combines strategic thinking, operational discipline, and team leadership to keep client programs running smoothly, maintain quality, and support strong business growth. The role also serves as a quality checkpoint before work is delivered externally.
Client Management
- Own the day-to-day health of the client’s business and ensure commitments are delivered consistently, on schedule, and within budget.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, partner agencies, and other stakeholders, while ensuring the internal team is properly aligned to the client structure.
- Use clear, direct, and empathetic communication to give constructive feedback, strengthen partnerships, and improve operational performance.
- Participate in key internal forums such as creative reviews, account status meetings, and integrated agency team discussions.
- Apply deep brand knowledge to help inspire the team and contribute ideas that can meaningfully move the business forward.
- Lead client presentations when needed and present ideas confidently and effectively.
Team Leadership
- Serve as a steady and approachable leader who models maturity, self-awareness, professionalism, and sound judgment.
- Coach, motivate, and inspire account, strategy, media, and creative teams while supporting their growth and development.
- Guide creative work for the account by aligning it to client objectives, briefs, and business needs, including both ongoing campaigns and new exploratory concepts.
- Manage upward communication with senior leadership, including VP-level stakeholders, on client and team matters.
Business Strategy
- Stay actively informed on the marketing landscape by reviewing business updates, platform changes, and industry developments, then translating them into client-facing points of view.
- Use strong insight into digital and mobile consumer behavior to shape brand strategies that help clients achieve commercial outcomes.
- Bring a solid working understanding of creative and media across major digital and social channels, including the principles and ecosystems behind them.
- Oversee larger or more complex campaign productions, including multi-channel or high-touch initiatives that require senior oversight.
- Contribute to annual planning sessions and help develop campaign proposals and strategic agendas.
- Evaluate creative work with a strong sense of brand strategy, standards, and guideline alignment.
- Understand the broader capabilities across VaynerMedia and VaynerX and know when to bring in the right teams.
Business Growth
- Anticipate client needs and identify opportunities to expand scope through additional campaign ideas that drive efficient results and better use of marketing spend.
- Help grow existing accounts and support new business efforts by building relationships across broader client networks and helping sell in strategic creative ideas.
Communication and Collaboration
- Deliver strong verbal, written, and visual presentations that provide clear strategic social counsel.
- Partner closely with creative and media teams to build cohesive stories and stronger solutions.
- Keep account management processes organized, consistent, and well documented through the use of shared templates and working systems.
- Collaborate across teams and actively encourage creative thinking beyond traditional role boundaries.
Financial Acumen and Business Health
- Ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
- Forecast production costs, logistics, and feasibility considerations to understand what can realistically be executed within budget.
- Monitor client relationship health and report updates to leadership on a regular basis.
- Handle client communication related to campaign finance and billing.
- Ensure scopes and schedules are completed and approved on time, while coordinating with finance operations to manage monthly billing and scope tracking.
Experience and Skills
- Background leading internal teams as well as integrated agency teams.
- Experience managing multi-channel work across multiple agency partners.
- Comfort presenting to senior-level clients.
- Experience with integrated performance reporting across organic social, paid social, and broader online/offline marketing activity for always-on and campaign work.
- Hands-on experience managing productions, including pre-production planning, live client management during shoots or branded events, and post-production deliverables.
- Working familiarity with advertising research terminology and common measurement frameworks.
- Strong command of presentation and collaboration tools such as PowerPoint, Google Slides, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and Google Meet.
Compensation and Benefits
The base salary range for this role is USD 110,000 to USD 150,000. Total compensation may differ depending on skills, experience, and location.
