Role overview

Working from County Hall in Preston, you will support Lancashire County Council’s Finance Service by helping deliver accurate, efficient payroll services for more than 35,000 employees across the North West. This is a permanent full-time position for 37 hours each week.

The salary for this post is £36,363 to £40,777 per year.

Main purpose of the role

As a Payroll Technical Specialist within the Payroll Service Development Team, you will contribute specialist payroll knowledge, strengthen service delivery, and help improve how payroll support is provided to internal teams and service users.

Key duties

  • Design and deliver training for payroll colleagues and for customers or end users.
  • Support stronger engagement with user groups across Lancashire County Council, schools, and academies.
  • Offer technical assistance on difficult payroll and pension issues, including PAYE, NIC, and pension reconciliations.
  • Prepare useful management information and assist with project work while meeting agreed standards for cost, timescale, and quality.
