Role overview

This permanent full-time opportunity is for a Youth Worker based in Morecambe, England, working 37 hours each week. The salary range is £28,142 to £32,061 per year. Please note that this position is not eligible for international sponsorship.

About the role

You will report to the relevant Team Manager within Contextual Safeguarding and work closely with other Youth Workers across the county. The role centres on delivering proactive one-to-one and group-based support to young people aged roughly 13 to 18 who are facing contextual and/or extra-familial safeguarding risks and challenges.

Your work will be based primarily in the North area, covering Wyre, Fylde and Lancaster. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary contextual safeguarding team and will provide intensive, targeted support for vulnerable teenagers who are at risk of poor outcomes due to external influences and behaviours that may expose them to harm.

What you will do

  • Deliver direct support to young people through one-to-one sessions and, where suitable, small group work.
  • Develop tailored responses and support plans based on each young person’s individual needs.
  • Work alongside social workers and wider multi-agency teams supporting the child and their family.
  • Link young people to specialist services, treatment options and wider protective support.
  • Use evidence-based and, where appropriate, therapeutic approaches to promote learning, recovery and positive change.
  • Support young people experiencing relationship difficulties, emotional and mental wellbeing concerns, exploitation, missing episodes, family breakdown risks, homelessness risk, non-engagement with education, or harmful behaviour including serious youth violence and criminal activity.
  • Work flexibly, including regular evening work and occasional weekend work, to meet the needs of children, young people and communities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with young people through persistent, relationship-based practice.
  • Work across localities when needed to meet service requirements.
  • Help shape new responses to the changing needs of young people using a strengths-based and restorative approach.

Who this role supports

The focus is on keeping families in Lancashire together safely, improving children’s health and education outcomes, and reducing physical and emotional harm. The wider service vision is that children, young people and families are safe, healthy and able to reach their full potential.

Service outcomes

  • Vulnerable children and young people are protected from harm and develop resilience.
  • Children and young people achieve their potential in education, learning and future work.
  • Children and young people lead healthy lives and understand how to support others.
  • Children, young people and families help shape the support they receive.
  • Children and young people in Lancashire enjoy a good quality of life, feel happy and want to remain in the county.
