Job description
Role Overview
This position involves delivering professional prosecution services, including offering legal advice to Queensland Police Service members on cases heard in Magistrates, Children's, and Coroners Courts. The Brisbane Police Prosecution Corps comprises both sworn and civilian prosecutors, supported by administrative personnel. Employees rotate through diverse courtroom modules such as Arrest and Hosted Courts, Lengthy Pleas, Remand and Vulnerable Persons Courts, Brief Management and Case Conferencing Courts, Hearings and Miscellaneous Courts. The role also covers Youth Justice Prosecutor duties, participation in Prosecution Innovation Programs, and providing operational legal advice and development.
Responsibilities
- Deliver prosecution services within the assigned area.
- Represent the Queensland Police Service and its members in all proceedings and applications before the Magistrates, Children's, and Coroners Courts.
- Offer legal counsel on court processes and related matters within the scope of responsibility.
- Oversee the preparation and quality of police briefs of evidence to ensure compliance with high standards.
- Engage, negotiate, and collaborate with QPS members, legal professionals, government bodies, and the community to foster strong working relationships and achieve policing goals.
- Recognize environmental influences affecting the work area and contribute to legal research, argument formulation, submission drafting, opinion generation, and advice delivery.
- Uphold rigorous standards of performance and professional conduct in all daily activities.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Must be admitted, eligible for immediate admission, or entitled to practice law as a legal practitioner in Queensland.
