About Sharon AI
Based in Auckland, New Zealand, Sharon AI builds the essential infrastructure powering next-generation artificial intelligence. Operating at the intersection of AI infrastructure, high-performance computing, and large-scale environments, Sharon AI delivers secure, scalable, and commercially sustainable solutions to support advanced AI workloads globally.
Role Overview
We are expanding and seeking an experienced Network Engineer to support the design, implementation, and management of our network infrastructure within our Auckland data centre and AI compute environments. Reporting to the Head of Operations, you will ensure the reliability and performance of network systems that form the backbone of Sharon AI's high-performance compute platform.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, and maintain the enterprise network infrastructure including routing, switching, firewalls, and load balancing tailored for AI compute and infrastructure environments.
- Continuously monitor network performance and capacity to maintain high availability, minimal latency, and resilience in the data centre and compute cluster networks.
- Configure, upgrade, and administer core network devices such as routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers.
- Manage and resolve network incidents efficiently, conduct root cause analyses, and escalate issues to reduce downtime.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including infrastructure, data centre, and security on network architecture for new deployments and growth.
- Implement network security measures including segmentation, VPNs, and firewall policies aligned with company information security standards.
- Maintain precise documentation of network configurations, diagrams, standards, and changes.
- Participate in an on-call schedule to support critical infrastructure beyond regular hours when necessary.
- Assist with capacity planning and scaling network resources to support growing business and compute demands.
- Drive continuous improvement efforts in network tools, automation, and operational workflows as the function evolves.
Candidate Profile
- 3 to 6 years’ experience as a Network Engineer in environments such as data centres, enterprise networks, cloud or ISPs.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Networking, or a related field.
- Strong proficiency with routing and switching protocols including BGP, OSPF, VLAN, and STP along with network fundamentals.
- Hands-on experience with firewalls, VPNs, and load balancers (brands such as Palo Alto, Fortinet, F5, Cisco, Arista, or Juniper preferred).
- Exceptional troubleshooting, analytical thinking, and incident resolution capabilities.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with internal teams and external vendors.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of data centre and high-performance compute networking technologies such as InfiniBand, RDMA, or low-latency fabrics.
- Certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, JNCIA or progress towards advanced certifications like CCNP or CCIE.
- Background in technology sectors including cloud computing, AI infrastructure, or enterprise networking.
