Job description
Role Overview
The Head of Technology Infrastructure is responsible for crafting and implementing a strategic technology plan aligned with the overall corporate objectives. This role involves guiding innovation, optimizing current infrastructure, and ensuring compliance with governance standards across all IT assets and networks.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a technology strategy that promotes innovation and enhances infrastructure, systems, applications, and information assets.
- Investigate and integrate global best practices to maintain superior technology availability and performance supporting business operations and growth.
- Translate strategic objectives into actionable plans ensuring robust, scalable infrastructure combining cloud and on-premises technologies.
- Lead complex projects ensuring they meet time, scope, and budget goals while driving change management initiatives that align with evolving technology trends.
- Oversee technical development and deployment of IT infrastructure, including decommissioning legacy systems and adoption of automation, AI, and machine learning for enhanced security and operations.
- Manage vendor relationships and contracts to ensure alignment with technology goals and compliance with service level agreements.
- Engage stakeholders effectively to communicate benefits and value from technology investments, resolve issues proactively, and maintain high operational uptime of 99.9%.
- Establish data protection policies in compliance with industry regulations such as POPIA and drive continuous improvement through testing emerging technologies.
- Identify and mitigate ICT risks, enforcing governance controls to protect data security and system reliability.
- Provide regular reports and dashboards to senior management and governance bodies illustrating progress on strategic initiatives and operational performance.
- Oversee budgeting for technology infrastructure, ensuring cost efficiency and resource optimization aligned with business priorities.
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of subject matter experts, focusing on performance development, succession planning, and fostering a culture aligned with organizational values and transformation goals.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related disciplines.
- Certifications in Enterprise Architecture or technology frameworks highly desirable; Cloud certifications (AWS, Azure, GCP) advantageous.
- ISO27001 accreditation viewed positively.
- At least 10 years in IT environments, with 5 years in senior infrastructure management roles.
- Minimum 3 years experience in network design/administration, data center operations, database and systems programming/administration.
- Extensive experience supporting 24/7 multi-site production environments including application hosting, networking, security, and information protection.
- Hands-on experience with RPA-enabled, cloud, on-premises, and hybrid infrastructure models and Agile project environments.
