About the Role

Acorn Environmental is seeking a motivated environmental analyst at the entry to mid-level to join our collaborative team remotely. This role offers a unique chance to gain specialized knowledge in consulting services focused on Native American Tribes, aiding in environmental planning and regulatory compliance related to land management, fee-to-trust arrangements, natural resource stewardship, and development projects.

Company Overview

We are a women-owned environmental planning and analysis firm servicing tribal governments, public agencies, and private clients. Our expertise includes adherence to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), tribal environmental policies, and other environmental laws. Known for delivering high-caliber services, we foster professional growth through personalized mentorship within our small team. Though our headquarters is in El Dorado Hills, California, most employees work remotely.

Daily Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and contribute to sections of comprehensive CEQA and NEPA compliance documents.
  • Draft reports and memos that summarize research and survey findings.
  • Assist with development of tribal Master Plans and similar planning documents.
  • Support proposal creation and scope of work preparatory tasks.
  • Perform editorial duties including line editing, formatting documents, compiling PDFs, and verifying acronyms and references.
  • Format documents to meet Section 508 accessibility standards.
  • Create PowerPoint presentations.
  • Undertake occasional travel for meetings, site visits, or client engagements.
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues to meet project deadlines.

Professional Growth and Flexibility

This position encourages tailoring your career to focus on areas such as planning, biological or water resources, GIS mapping, or technical editing according to your interests. Our business model supports autonomy and innovation.

Application Requirements

  • Residence in the Greater Sacramento, California area is mandatory.
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, planning, policy, or related disciplines.
  • At least one year of experience in environmental planning, analysis, Native American tribal engagement, or a similar field.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; a writing sample will be requested.
  • Attention to detail and good organizational capabilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs.
  • Experience drafting environmental compliance documents or proposals related to NEPA or CEQA is advantageous.

Benefits and Compensation

We provide comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage. Our flexible work hours support work-life integration and accommodate various time zones or travel. Additionally, you will receive paid holidays, and vacation/sick leave. Starting salary is dependent on your experience and education, with an estimated range of $55,000 to $80,000 annually.
