Job description

Role Overview

The Community Manager in esports plays a critical role in nurturing and managing the bond between a gaming organization and its audience. They oversee communities related to specific games, esports events, tournament providers, or other gaming sectors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage actively with the community via social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, YouTube, Reddit, Twitch, blogs, forums, and official websites.
  • Collaborate closely with the PR and marketing teams, potentially being part of those teams, to impact public perception of the brand or product.
  • Create content including press releases, conduct interviews, and maintain regular social media postings.
  • Gather and relay significant community feedback and requests to relevant internal teams.
  • Work alongside product management and sales/partnership teams to ensure alignment with community sentiments.
  • Participate in or organize event management, fan meet and greets, and provide on-site support and engagement.

Required Skills and Attributes

  • Deep understanding of the target game, brand, or product and the corresponding customer base.
  • Patience and empathy to manage a passionate and vocal community effectively.
  • Proficiency in social media management, including awareness of current trends, memes, and content formats like vlogs and gifs.
  • Strong decision-making capabilities regarding content curation and community interactions.
  • Excellent communication, writing, video editing, and graphic design skills, including familiarity with Photoshop.
  • A fitting personality and style that resonate with the specific gaming culture or brand.

Work Environment and Progression

  • Typical working hours are 9 am to 5 pm; however, larger organizations may require team coverage across various hours for community interaction.
  • Posting and scheduling content outside normal business hours may be necessary to maintain engagement consistency.
  • Community managers often handle operational responsibilities such as event coordination and project management.
  • Career pathways include roles in influencer management, project management, marketing/social media, partnerships, or business development.

Entry Recommendations
