About Sedo Group

Sedo Group is a specialist advisory firm that helps organisations succeed in strategic and social procurement, particularly in complex government, procurement, and regulatory settings. The firm works across policy, commercial strategy, and social impact, helping clients respond to changing government requirements, build practical and compliant procurement approaches, and strengthen their market position.

The business focuses on turning complicated policy and procurement environments into clear strategies, frameworks, and actions that improve delivery, support engagement with government, and create value alongside social, sustainability, and community outcomes. As the company grows, this role offers the chance to help shape its procurement advisory capability and contribute to projects with meaningful commercial and social impact.

About the role

Sedo Group is seeking a Senior Consultant - Strategic Procurement to join its Melbourne team. Reporting to the Manager - Strategic & Social Procurement, this position is central to delivering procurement advisory services for clients. The work will involve designing, building, and rolling out strategic procurement frameworks, strategies, policies, and market-facing documents.

You will partner closely with clients to assess procurement processes, interpret government policy requirements, and produce practical recommendations. The role is primarily consulting-based, while also offering opportunities to contribute to internal capability building, business development, and the growth of Sedo Group’s strategic and social procurement offering. This is a hybrid position with a blend of office collaboration and work-from-home flexibility.

Key responsibilities

  • Run and support procurement advisory assignments for Sedo Group clients.
  • Lead complex sourcing activity such as RFx, EOI, RFT, RFP, negotiation, and evaluation, while creating sourcing frameworks and assessment methods.
  • Carry out procurement reviews by examining processes, data, trends, risks, and improvement areas.
  • Create procurement strategies, policies, frameworks, and implementation plans that align with client goals.
  • Support requirements definition, market engagement planning, and preparation of procurement documents.
  • Assess and design market-led proposals and procurement approaches tailored to client needs.
  • Interpret government procurement rules, regulations, and guidance, then translate them into practical advice for clients.
  • Apply strong procurement governance, probity, compliance, and risk judgement in complex settings.
  • Use tendering, contract management, and finance systems effectively.
  • Track government announcements, strategies, budgets, procurement plans, and policy updates to identify client risks and opportunities.
  • Draft reports, business cases, briefing notes, presentations, and evidence-based recommendations.
  • Run client workshops, stakeholder meetings, and capability-building sessions.
  • Assist with change management linked to procurement improvement and implementation.
  • Provide regular project updates and progress reporting to clients and Sedo Group leadership.
  • Support business development by helping scope engagements, prepare proposals, and identify new opportunities.
  • Contribute to Sedo Group’s internal procurement policies, processes, and technology where needed.

About you

You are a commercially focused procurement professional who understands policy environments and can convert complex requirements into clear, practical guidance. You are comfortable working with clients, senior stakeholders, and government representatives, and you enjoy solving problems, improving processes, and delivering work that supports both business and social outcomes.

Requirements

  • Experience in procurement, contract management, commercial advisory, or consulting.
  • Strong understanding of public sector procurement frameworks, government policy, and regulated environments.
  • Experience creating procurement strategies, policies, market approach documents, reports, or business cases.
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving ability, including identifying improvements and developing workable solutions.
  • Excellent written communication skills and careful attention to detail.
  • Confident verbal communication skills, including stakeholder engagement and workshop facilitation.
  • Experience developing and applying procurement governance frameworks.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Capacity to work independently, take initiative, and contribute within a small growing team.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, project management tools, email, and online collaboration platforms.
  • Willingness to learn new systems, tools, and procurement technologies.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification in business, finance, commerce, law, public policy, economics, supply chain management, or a related area.
  • At least 3 to 5 years of experience in procurement delivery, commercial advisory, consulting, or a similar field.
  • Experience advising government, public sector organisations, or businesses operating in highly regulated environments.
  • Knowledge of procurement laws, regulations, policies, and processes.
  • Experience in project-based work, including planning, delivery, reporting, and client management.
  • Postgraduate qualifications, procurement certifications, experience with procurement software, and use of data analysis or performance measurement tools will be viewed favorably.
