Role Overview

We are seeking a dependable and proactive School Facilities Manager (Caretaker) to maintain a safe, welcoming, and well-maintained environment where both pupils and staff can thrive. This role involves diverse daily responsibilities, including building and grounds upkeep, repairs, event support, and ensuring site security.

Working Hours and Contract

This is a full-time permanent position with working hours from Monday to Friday, 7am to 3pm. Candidates must be flexible to occasionally work evenings, weekends, and respond to emergency site calls as needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain cleanliness, safety, and security of the school buildings and grounds.
• Perform general maintenance, minor repairs, and DIY tasks across the site.
• Manage school opening and closing routines and respond to emergency calls.
• Conduct routine checks related to health, fire safety, and statutory compliance.
• Collaborate with contractors and the facilities team on planned maintenance projects.
• Prepare indoor and outdoor spaces for lessons, events, and community activities.
• Ensure the school environment remains well-presented and conducive to learning.

Candidate Profile

• Practical experience in caretaking, premises management, facilities, or building maintenance.
• Strong DIY skills and a hands-on approach to maintenance tasks.
• Good understanding of health and safety standards with attention to detail.
• Organized, reliable, and capable of independently managing duties.
• Holder of a valid UK driving licence.
• Effective communication skills for liaising with colleagues, contractors, and visitors.
• A desire to contribute positively to the school community and student wellbeing.

Qualifications

While certifications in facilities management or health and safety (such as IOSH or NEBOSH) are advantageous, the school values attitude, dedication, and approach over formal qualifications.
