Position Overview
Located in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the Monitoring Survey Manager will spearhead the planning, administration, and execution of all survey and structural monitoring activities for the Riyadh Metro Project. This role is vital for ensuring precise oversight of tunnels, stations, viaducts, depots, nearby structures, utilities, and key infrastructure during both construction and operational stages. The manager will oversee monitoring teams, manage survey data, maintain adherence to project specs and global standards, and provide expert guidance to facilitate safe and effective project completion.
Core Duties
- Formulate and enforce strategies, processes, and methodologies for survey and structural monitoring across the project scope.
- Set up and sustain horizontal and vertical control networks throughout project corridors.
- Supervise geodetic, topographic, deformation, settlement, and structural monitoring tasks.
- Ensure proper installation, commissioning, and upkeep of monitoring instruments and control points.
- Manage monitoring activities covering tunnels, stations, retaining walls, viaducts, bridges, track infrastructure, nearby buildings, roads, and utilities.
Technical Direction
- Lead a diverse team comprising survey engineers, monitoring engineers, surveyors, and technicians.
- Evaluate and approve monitoring plans, methodologies, technical documents, and outcomes.
- Guarantee that monitoring operations comply with contractual, project, and international requirements.
- Provide expert advice on exact surveying methods and deformation data analysis.
Data Evaluation and Reporting
- Track and analyze displacement, settlement, movement, and structural behavior data.
- Identify monitoring trends and potential risks impacting assets or third-party structures.
- Generate and deliver detailed monitoring reports, visual dashboards, and technical advice to stakeholders and project management.
- Define alert thresholds and escalation procedures for abnormal structural changes.
Collaboration
- Coordinate with teams from construction, design, geotechnical, tunneling, civil, and rail disciplines.
- Engage with client representatives, consultants, authorities, and subcontractors regarding monitoring needs and findings.
- Support engineering inquiries and supply survey data for design verification and construction validation.
Quality, Safety, and Compliance
- Ensure all activities meet project health, safety, and environmental standards.
- Implement QA/QC protocols for survey and monitoring tasks.
- Conduct audits and inspections to validate accuracy and reliability of monitoring data and systems.
- Maintain calibration documentation for all instruments used.
Technology & Equipment Management
- Oversee advanced monitoring instruments and systems including Total Stations, GNSS/GPS, Digital Levels, Automatic Monitoring Systems, Inclinometers, Tiltmeters, Settlement Monitoring, Vibration Monitors, Track Monitoring Systems, Laser Scanners, and UAV-based Surveys.
- Integrate monitoring data with project databases and software platforms.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Survey Engineering, Geomatics, Geodesy, Civil Engineering, or a related field; Master's degree is a plus.
- Minimum of 10 to 15 years in surveying and monitoring within large infrastructure projects.
- At least 5 years in a managerial or leadership capacity.
- Experience with metro, railway, tunneling, or major transport infrastructure projects.
- Proficient in managing automated monitoring systems and deformation monitoring programs.
Technical Expertise and Competencies
- In-depth knowledge of precision surveying, geodetic control network establishment, and deformation monitoring.
- Skillful use of survey and monitoring software such as Leica GeoMoS, Trimble 4D Control, AutoCAD Civil 3D, BIM platforms, GIS tools, and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to interpret geotechnical and structural monitoring data effectively.
- Strong leadership, strategic planning, analytical problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent communication skills for managing multiple stakeholders.
- Capable of working efficiently under pressure within large-scale projects with keen attention to detail, quality, and safety.
