Key Responsibilities
- Adhere strictly to clinical policies and standard precaution protocols.
- Efficiently process laboratory test orders and handle specimens with accuracy and promptness.
- Proactively assist laboratory colleagues as workload allows without needing request.
- Prioritize daily tasks effectively, adapting to urgent requests such as STAT tests and outpatient scheduling.
- Manage work time efficiently and organize duties for optimal productivity.
- Reference and apply relevant policies and procedures, coordinating with external laboratories for specimen requirements.
- Utilize lab materials and equipment responsibly to minimize waste.
- Accept flexibility in working shifts when workload demands or other situations arise.
- Develop and maintain positive teamwork and professional relationships within the laboratory and other departments.
- Understand and function appropriately within the laboratory and clinical organizational hierarchy.
- Seek guidance from senior supervisors to resolve technical or personnel challenges.
- Exercise independent judgment when unexpected scenarios occur.
- Maintain consistent attendance and punctuality as per schedule.
- Present a neat professional appearance, complying with established dress codes including wearing lab coats or approved protective wear and official identification at all times.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in communication complying with hospital standards.
- Demonstrate loyalty and teamwork within the laboratory and across departments.
- Receive and inspect samples ensuring proper containers, labeling, volume, and identification according to laboratory protocols.
- Verify that send-out test samples correspond with laboratory orders and barcodes through careful scanning inspection.
- Sort in-house samples appropriately to designated laboratory units.
- Store send-out samples correctly based on test type requirements.
- Account for sent samples aligned with send-out documentation.
- Monitor test analyses and specimen examinations to uphold acceptable analytic performance levels.
- Track and review daily unit worklists effectively.
- Maintain organized and comprehensive unit records and files.
- Communicate laboratory inquiries through official channels such as emails.
- Perform chemical analyses of body fluids like blood and urine using laboratory analyzers.
- Ensure all corrective actions are completed and test systems properly functioning before reporting patient results.
- Comply with all laboratory policies and accreditation standards continuously.
- Engage actively in monthly Quality Management meetings by presenting activities, metrics, and compliance assessments, and participate in developing remedial or quality improvement plans as assigned.
- Oversee inventory levels for materials, supplies, and equipment to maintain adequacy.
- Maintain ongoing education on quality, safety, and infection control practices.
- Collaborate effectively within team environments, supporting colleagues.
- Perform any additional duties assigned by the laboratory director or supervisor as required.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology from an accredited university; a master's degree or higher is preferred.
- At least four years of relevant clinical laboratory experience following certification as a Medical Technologist.
- Possession of a valid Saudi Commission for Healthcare Specialties license for Medical Technologists.
- Minimum two years of senior technologist experience within a clinical laboratory setting.
- Hands-on expertise with Quality Management Systems (QMS).
- Proficiency in English language communication.
- Strong computer literacy skills.
