Fraud Analyst

Role Overview

We are looking for a skilled Data Analyst to join our Payments & Risk team to combat fraud risks effectively. This role involves specifying data needs, crafting insightful analytics dashboards, and collaborating across multiple teams to prevent, detect, and mitigate fraud risks, securing the integrity of our processes and brand.

Key Responsibilities

• Identify essential data sources and elements to understand fraud mechanisms accurately.
• Gain thorough knowledge of fraud detection vendors and the data they provide.
• Develop and optimize complex SQL queries to extract, transform, and analyze data from various databases.
• Partner with data engineers to enhance data pipelines ensuring reliable fraud monitoring.
• Maintain data quality, accuracy, and proper documentation of datasets relevant to fraud detection.
• Create and sustain metrics and dashboards that evaluate fraud risk.
• Monitor the entire data lifecycle related to payment, fraud, and business functions by pinpointing problems, selecting the right datasets, validating data, supplementing data with other departments, making data consumer-friendly, uncovering root causes, proposing solutions, assessing ROI, and presenting findings to leadership.
• Develop and track key risk indicators, highlighting any gaps.
• Work with Payments and Business teams to address emerging fraud threats in acquisition and account management strategies, reviewing partnerships and marketing contracts to identify risks.
• Regularly inspect transactions, accounts, and financial activity to identify potential fraudulent behavior.

Candidate Profile

• At least 4 years experience in fraud analytics or similar data-driven roles, preferably in digital goods like software.
• Practical knowledge of fraud detection vendors such as Signifyd, Bolster, or Arkose.
• Familiarity with fraud detection systems, payment risk tools, and chargeback analysis methods.
• Proficiency with analytics tools including SQL, Databricks/Mosaic, and PowerBI, along with advanced Excel capabilities like pivot tables and query functions.
• Strong communication skills capable of clearly conveying complex analyses to senior leaders and ensuring consistent follow-through on initiatives.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively within fast-moving, multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience using AI-powered tools for dashboard creation and complex data analysis is advantageous.
• Prior exposure to subscription services or digital commerce sectors.
• Experience identifying fraudulent patterns in affiliate marketing, payment activity, or account misuse.
• Some knowledge of machine learning applications for fraud detection is a plus.

Work Location and Conditions

This position requires a hybrid work schedule, based near one of McAfee's hubs — Frisco, TX; New York, NY; San Jose, CA; or Newport Beach, CA — with onsite attendance as needed and remote work from home when not onsite. Flexibility to manage urgent requests occasionally outside normal business hours is necessary.
