About Native American Rights Fund (NARF)
NARF is a longstanding 501(c)(3) legal organization founded in 1970 and headquartered in Boulder, Colorado, with additional offices in Washington, D.C., and Anchorage, Alaska. The organization is dedicated to safeguarding Native American rights through litigation, legal advocacy, and expert counsel. With a staff of over 70 and governed by a board of Native American tribal leaders, NARF has impacted over 300 Tribal Nations and tens of thousands of Native people nationally.
Position Overview
The Native American Rights Fund is seeking a Chief Operating Officer (COO) to join its leadership team. This role will be pivotal in advancing and shaping the organization's operational strategies during a period of significant growth, including recent expansions in budget and staffing. The COO will oversee critical departments such as Finance & Accounting, Development, Information Technology, Facilities, Human Resources, and Communications, driving cross-functional alignment and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic and operational leadership to strengthen organizational infrastructure and capacity.
- Oversee and coordinate Finance & Accounting, Development, IT, Facilities, HR, and Communications.
- Collaborate closely with the Executive Director and senior leadership to advance NARF’s mission effectively.
- Foster a culture of operational excellence to support ongoing organizational growth and success.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree is mandatory; advanced degrees in business, finance, law, or related fields are preferred.
- Relevant experience with Native American communities, Tribal governments, or advocacy groups is highly desirable.
- Background in mission-driven organizations, Public Interest Law Firms, or impact litigation non-profits is advantageous.

Compensation and Benefits
- Salary range between $268,000 and $307,000, reflective of the Denver Metro market and 10-15+ years of experience.
- Comprehensive benefits package including vacation, health, dental, vision insurance, and paid leave (sick, parental, medical/disability).
- Employer contributions to 401(k) plan after one year of service.
