About the Role

A notable food distribution company is searching for a commercially adept Assistant Buyer to become a part of their expanding commercial team based in West Dublin. This role offers a significant opportunity to advance one's career within a fast-moving FMCG industry, aiding product management, supplier relationship maintenance, and commercial operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish, keep current, and revise product codes within internal platforms.
  • Oversee product pricing and execute price modifications in alignment with established margin objectives.
  • Address product and pricing inquiries from customers, suppliers, and internal departments.
  • Relay pricing updates, product alterations, and commercial details to sales teams and customers.
  • Ensure accuracy of product data on customer ordering systems and internal resources.
  • Develop and sustain strong collaborations with existing suppliers and pinpoint new sourcing possibilities.
  • Assist in supplier contract negotiations to secure competitive prices and favorable commercial conditions.
  • Recognize market gaps, category advances, and new product ideas to foster business expansion.
  • Handle coordination of product samples, emphasizing efficient tracking, cataloging, and distribution.
  • Maintain commercial databases, refresh currency records, and support the upkeep of ERP systems.
  • Participate in system testing and propose enhancements for process optimization as needed.
  • Analyze margin reports to detect pricing inconsistencies, margin declines, and profit improvement prospects.
  • Generate monthly rebate, sample, and ad hoc commercial reports.

Essential Qualifications & Skills

  • At least two years of experience in Buying, Commercial, Procurement, or related roles.
  • Background in FMCG, foodservice, wholesale, or retail sectors is preferred.
  • Solid commercial understanding, especially in pricing, margins, and profitability.
  • Experience in managing supplier partnerships and engaging with multiple stakeholders.
  • Proficient analytical and numerical abilities with high attention to detail.
  • Advanced expertise in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with the broader Microsoft Office suite.
  • Experience with ERP software is advantageous.
  • Strong organizational and time management capabilities, adept at juggling several tasks.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proactive problem-solving mindset and the ability to work autonomously and collaboratively.
