Role Summary

The Academic Lead position involves delivering outstanding subject-specific teaching and academic advising, curriculum design, monitoring student progress, supporting tutors, and upholding Blue Education's academic standards. This hybrid role is based in London or Shanghai and requires evening and weekend teaching as needed.

Key Accountabilities

  • Deliver thorough, student-focused instruction in one of the subject disciplines: Maths, Physics/Engineering, Economics, Humanities & Social Sciences, or Biochemistry.
  • Provide tailored mentoring for high-achieving students aiming for competitive universities such as Oxbridge and Ivy League institutions.
  • Diagnose student strengths and areas for development to design structured learning plans that foster measurable academic advancement.
  • Manage a student portfolio, track performance, engagement and provide timely academic progress reports and recommendations to students, families, and teams.
  • Engage in active communication with families, explaining academic pathways, university preparations, and managing concerns professionally.
  • Lead and mentor subject tutors to maintain teaching excellence and share expertise and best practices within the academic team.
  • Support curriculum development, including enrichment programs, assessments, and resource creation aligned with rigorous university admission standards.
  • Participate in outreach activities such as webinars and events, staying current with educational trends and competitor insights.

Candidate Profile

  • Graduates with a degree or higher from elite institutions (Oxford, Cambridge, LSE, Imperial College, Ivy League, or equivalent).
  • Minimum of 500 hours teaching or mentoring experience with high-achieving or university-bound students, preferably in competitive admission contexts.
  • Capability to design effective learning plans, clarify complex concepts, and enhance student confidence and academic results.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively advise students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Highly organized, adept at managing multiple students, deadlines, and consultations, with confident use of digital teaching platforms.
  • Collaborative with a passion for education, intellectual curiosity, emotional intelligence, and integrity.
  • Willingness to commit to evening and weekend work during peak admission seasons.
