Systems Architect (Linux & Backup Services)

About the Role

A leading technology solutions company based in Doha, Qatar is searching for a seasoned Systems Architect specializing in Linux and Backup Services. This position involves leading the design, deployment, and management of enterprise-grade Linux systems and backup platforms across on-premises, hybrid, and multi-cloud settings. The objective is to ensure the highest levels of availability, security, regulatory compliance, and long-term data protection through effective backup and archival strategies.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, and oversee enterprise backup and archive solutions using Commvault.
• Develop long-term strategies for data retention, tiering, and retrieval that align with business recovery objectives and compliance demands.
• Ensure archive solutions are secure, resilient, and cost-effective across both on-premises and cloud infrastructures.
• Create and maintain disaster recovery and backup plans to support business continuity, including testing and documentation of recovery processes.
• Facilitate integration of Linux and backup systems with hybrid and cloud platforms for operational efficiency.
• Conduct performance tuning, capacity planning, and lifecycle management to optimize storage utilization and costs.
• Lead efforts in automation, standardization, and continuous process improvements.
• Enforce Linux OS security best practices, including access control, auditing, and system hardening.
• Safeguard backup data via encryption and immutability mechanisms.
• Support audit, compliance, and regulatory requirements related to data and systems security.
• Implement centralized monitoring, alerting, and reporting frameworks, defining key performance indicators and system health dashboards.
• Lead Linux and backup projects from start to finish while providing technical mentorship to team members.
• Maintain up-to-date architecture documentation, standards, and operational runbooks.
• Collaborate closely with infrastructure, security, application teams, vendors, and other stakeholders to communicate risks and technical designs effectively.

Candidate Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 8 to 10 years of experience designing and managing enterprise Linux systems and backup architectures.
• Expert-level practical skills with Red Hat Enterprise Linux administration, security hardening, and performance optimization.
• Experienced in using Commvault for backup, recovery, and archiving enterprise data.
• Certified in Commvault Backup & Recovery and Archive; Red Hat certifications such as RHCSA or RHCE are preferred.
• Knowledgeable in integrating backup solutions with cloud platforms such as Azure and Google Cloud.
• Strong understanding of disaster recovery concepts, encryption, data retention policies, and compliance controls.
• Proficient in monitoring tools, automation techniques, and scripting for operational enhancements.
• Excellent documentation practices and communication abilities for stakeholder engagement.
