About the Role
We are looking for a meticulous and well-organized Payroll Assistant to join a team based in Honolulu, Hawaii. This full-time onsite role involves supporting payroll operations to ensure employees are paid accurately and promptly. The position demands maintaining detailed payroll records, addressing payroll inquiries, and aligning all processes with federal, state, and company policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with preparing and processing bi-weekly employee payroll.
- Review and verify timesheets, attendance, and payroll inputs for correctness.
- Enter payroll data such as new hires, terminations, salary changes, and deductions.
- Confirm payroll calculations including taxes, garnishments, benefits, and other deductions.
- Address employee payroll questions professionally and promptly.
- Reconcile payroll reports and contribute to payroll auditing processes.
- Maintain confidential payroll and employee records securely.
- Support activities related to year-end payroll functions including W-2 generation and reports.
- Ensure adherence to applicable federal, state, and local payroll laws.
- Work collaboratively with Human Resources and Accounting to resolve payroll discrepancies.
- Perform other payroll and administrative tasks as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or similar preferred.
- Minimum two years of experience in payroll or accounting support roles.
- Familiarity with payroll processing, wage and hour legislation, and payroll tax requirements.
- Experience using payroll software platforms such as ADP, UKG, Paycom, or analogous systems is preferred.
- Strong skills in Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft Office suite.
- High attention to detail and excellent organizational capabilities.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information.
- Effective communication skills both written and verbal.
- Capability to juggle multiple tasks in a dynamic work environment.
Preferred Credentials
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification is advantageous.
- Prior experience handling payroll across multiple locations is a benefit.
