Role Overview
As a Junior Estimator within Tesla's manufacturing sites located in Fremont, CA, you will contribute to cost estimation efforts for projects across the nation. Your responsibilities will include supporting cost estimation by delivering real-time cost calculations, assisting in the creation of estimation tools such as libraries and dashboards, automating processes, and enhancing efficiencies within the Cost Estimation team. The position requires a strong focus on detailed estimating, tracking productivity, and implementing value engineering strategies to support Tesla's construction supply chain through precise and dynamic cost intelligence.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce detailed, precise cost estimates covering various construction disciplines including civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, architectural, and finishing work.
- Interpret blueprints, project specifications, schedules, and scopes to identify all scope elements alongside potential risks.
- Conduct both manual and software-assisted takeoffs utilizing tools such as Procore, Bluebeam, PlanGrid, CostX, or Sage Timberline.
- Gather and analyze data on material prices, labor rates, equipment needs, and subcontractor costs across trades.
- Prepare comprehensive bid packages, incorporating bid summaries, contingency analyses, and risk evaluations.
- Maintain and update historical cost databases and estimating templates to aid in upcoming projects.
- Provide insights on project feasibility, pricing approaches, and subcontractor selections.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in construction estimating, ideally within general contracting or construction management sectors.
- Demonstrated expertise estimating costs across multiple construction disciplines including civil, structural, MEP, architectural, and finishing trades.
- Proficient in estimation software such as Procore, CostX, Bluebeam, Sage Timberline, PlanGrid, or similar platforms.
- Thorough understanding of construction techniques, materials, sequencing, and safety regulations.
- Strong analytical abilities with keen attention to detail and sound mathematical skills.
- Self-motivated with the capability to independently handle multiple projects under accelerated timelines.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Supply Chain, or related fields, or equivalent practical experience.
