About the Role

Become a valued member of MBIE’s Protective Security team as an Advisor Personnel Security, contributing to the strengthening of personnel security capabilities and fostering a workforce resilient to risks. This role supports MBIE's efforts to align personnel security practices with the Government’s Protective Security Requirements (PSR), ensuring a risk-based evaluation and management of personnel security throughout all phases.

As an integral advisor, you will offer pragmatic guidance to managers and employees regarding security protocols and risk mitigation. The position involves managing personnel security operations, facilitating stakeholder communication, supporting risk and incident management activities, and undertaking reporting and trend analysis to inform strategic decisions.

We welcome candidates early in their careers, including recent graduates, especially those with interests intersecting people management, behavioral analysis, and risk assessment. Previous direct personnel security experience is not mandatory; instead, we value sound judgment, eagerness to learn, professionalism in handling sensitive matters, and the aptitude to navigate complex people-related issues. Applicants with academic backgrounds in human resources, organizational behavior, integrity, or risk, as well as those with relevant personnel security experience in New Zealand, are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to maturing and implementing personnel security policies and procedures.
  • Provide informed advice and practical support to managers and employees on security compliance and risk reduction strategies.
  • Coordinate personnel security processes and maintain open communication with stakeholders.
  • Assist in managing personnel security risks and incidents, ensuring timely and effective response.
  • Analyze security trends and prepare reports that aid in decision-making.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Familiarity with personnel security concepts within organizational or people-risk frameworks.
  • A mature, professional demeanor with discretion in handling confidential information.
  • Effective verbal and written communication abilities suitable for diverse audiences.
  • Strong analytical skills with capability to identify risks and suggest viable solutions.
  • Excellent organizational skills to juggle multiple priorities with keen attention to detail.
  • Collaborative attitude fostering respectful and productive working relationships.
  • Proactive and curious mindset with a commitment to continual learning and development.

Essential Eligibility Criteria

  • Legal right to live and work in New Zealand.
  • Capability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret national security clearance.
  • Must be a New Zealand citizen or resident with at least 10 years continuous residence in New Zealand.
  • Alternatively, citizenship of Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, or the United States, with continuous residence over the last 10 years in one or more of these countries.
