Job Summary
This role involves monitoring and managing the operational parameters of the plant unit, while collaborating closely with fellow operators to ensure smooth and safe operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and be knowledgeable about local fire safety equipment.
- Understand plant Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, operation and control logics, emergency protocols, and relevant documentation.
- Continuously monitor unit parameters, record readings regularly on log sheets, and document all shift activities and events in the logbook.
- Follow directives from the Shift Charge Engineer and Supervisor and maintain communication with other operators on operational matters.
- Remain vigilant and respond promptly to any abnormal operating conditions.
- Coordinate Lock Out & Tag Out procedures during equipment isolation for maintenance in compliance with approved Permit to Work procedures and restore equipment after maintenance as instructed.
- Inspect the unit and auxiliary equipment throughout the shift to ensure operational parameters are within safe limits; report any irregularities to supervisory staff.
- Conduct periodic protection tests under supervision and maintain proper records; perform scheduled equipment changeovers.
- Initiate and track work requests or defect reports for any faulty equipment until resolution.
- Assist in orienting and training new operators.
- Report near misses and implement risk mitigation measures as prescribed.
- Report any deviations related to Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental Management Systems.
- Ensure appropriate waste disposal procedures are followed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Knowledge
- Basic understanding of Quality, Occupational Health & Safety, and Environmental Management System principles.
- Familiarity with waste identification, classification, and disposal.
- Awareness of emission monitoring practices.
- Knowledge of the environmental and health impact of chemicals utilized in the plant.
- Experience with firefighting equipment and proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Basic first aid knowledge.
- Operational knowledge of power and water plants.
- Strong interpersonal communication and analytical skills.
- Ability to perform hazard risk assessments and aspect impact evaluations.
- Basic computer proficiency.
Educational Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma in Engineering is mandatory; Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is preferred.
- Minimum five years of experience in the same role.
- Awareness or working knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and OHSAS 18001 standards is preferred.
