Description de l'emploi

Role Overview

The Mechanical Technician will be responsible for a variety of maintenance, repair, inspection, and troubleshooting tasks centered around mechanical equipment mainly within combined cycle power plants and other heavy industrial facilities. This role includes performing preventive, predictive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance on various equipment, ensuring proper documentation and adherence to safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute daily mechanical maintenance activities including planned preventive, predictive, corrective, and emergency repairs on assigned machinery.
  • Conduct inspections, running checks, and adhere strictly to maintenance schedules using approved checklists.
  • Identify and report equipment abnormalities, defects, or non-conformances to the Mechanical Maintenance Engineer promptly.
  • Diagnose mechanical failures using authorized tools, technical manuals, and drawings to determine root causes and execute repairs.
  • Perform dismantling, cleaning, repairs, replacement of worn parts, reassembly, alignment, and functional testing of mechanical components.
  • Replace components such as bearings, seals, gaskets, couplings, belts, filters, and lubrication system parts as necessary.
  • Carry out machine adjustments, alignment, tightening, lubrication, oil changes, and cleaning following approved methods.
  • Detect and communicate issues like corrosion, leaks, cracks, overheating, vibration, noise, misalignment, or damaged insulation.
  • Ensure all work areas are clean, safe, and properly restored post-maintenance activities.
  • Support maintenance and repair of equipment including Siemens 9000HL-Class gas turbine auxiliaries, steam turbine auxiliaries, HRSG components, various pumps, compressors, fans, valves, water treatment systems, and other balance-of-plant machinery.
  • Perform routine condition monitoring, testing, and troubleshooting using tools such as vibration meters, infrared thermometers, laser aligners, torque wrenches, and micrometers.
  • Assist in vibration analysis, alignment verification, bearing inspections, valve and pump performance testing, pressure and leak detection, and functional testing.
  • Document inspection results, test data, defects found, and maintenance work completed accurately.
  • Help identify causes of recurring failures and recommend corrective measures, including repairs, modifications, or maintenance plan enhancements.
  • Support basic welding, fabrication, and workshop repairs as needed.
  • Participate in shutdowns, overhauls, commissioning, warranty activities, and emergency repairs when required.
  • Adhere to all safety procedures including permits-to-work, lockout/tagout, confined space entry, lifting protocols, and use of personal protective equipment.
  • Report unsafe conditions, incidents, and hazards immediately and participate actively in safety meetings, risk assessments, audits, and investigations.
  • Maintain environmental compliance by handling and disposing of waste materials appropriately.
  • Accurately complete all maintenance documentation and support computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) including work orders and equipment history updates.
  • Manage spare parts inventory, coordinate with stores for material needs, maintain tools and equipment, and ensure good housekeeping standards at workplaces and workshops.
  • Collaborate effectively with engineers, operations, electrical and instrumentation teams, contractors, original equipment manufacturers, and other site staff.
  • Assist in training junior and new technicians, and participate in continuous improvement, maintenance enhancement programs, 5S, and hazard reporting initiatives.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma in Mechanical Technology or an equivalent field; trade certifications in mechanical disciplines are preferred.
  • Additional training in rigging, lifting operations, forklift operation, and safety courses will be advantageous.
  • At least 5 years of experience in mechanical maintenance within power plants, heavy industrial sites, oil & gas, desalination, or petrochemical plants; experience in combined cycle power plants is highly desirable.

Technical and Practical Knowledge

  • Comprehensive understanding of mechanical systems in combined cycle power plants including gas and steam turbines, HRSG, pumps, compressors, fans, valves, heat exchangers, filters, and piping networks.
  • Familiarity with auxiliary systems such as lube oil, hydraulic oil, fuel systems, cooling water, condensate, boiler feedwater, compressed air, and water treatment processes.
  • Expertise in rotating equipment maintenance practices including bearing inspection, lubrication techniques, seal replacement, coupling alignment, and vibration analysis.
  • Experience with valve maintenance activities such as gland packing, seat leakage checks, lapping, and basic overhauls.
  • Knowledge of safe lifting, rigging, torque tightening, mechanical assembly, and use of lifting tools.
  • Awareness of safety requirements related to permit-to-work, lockout/tagout procedures, confined-space entry, and lifting operations.
  • Ability to utilize diagnostic and maintenance tools including vibration meters, infrared thermometers, pressure gauges, tachometers, and alignment instruments.
  • Basic computer literacy to update CMMS, work orders, maintenance records, and reports.
  • Good communication skills in English, effective teamwork, and coordination capabilities.
  • Flexibility to work during planned outages, emergency breakdowns, shifts, and on-call situations as demanded.
