Maintenance Lead Engineer - Mechanical

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Lead Engineer to oversee and enhance the mechanical maintenance operations at a large-scale combined cycle power plant. This key role involves planning, executing, and managing maintenance activities for critical equipment such as gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, condensers, heat recovery steam generators, pumps, compressors, HVAC systems, and related ancillary systems.

Responsibilities

• Formulate and implement schedules for inspection, maintenance, and repair of all mechanical equipment to ensure reliability and efficiency.
• Confirm availability of necessary specialized tools and ensure all required third-party certifications are maintained.
• Lead and mentor a team of mechanical engineers and technicians, fostering a culture focused on safety, compliance, and continuous process improvements.
• Deliver technical assistance and training to maintenance personnel for effective troubleshooting and problem-solving of mechanical issues.
• Perform root cause analyses on mechanical failures and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Manage mechanical maintenance projects from planning stages through completion, ensuring timelines and budgets are met.
• Coordinate maintenance efforts with operations and other departments to minimize operational disruptions.
• Support the preparation and management of annual maintenance budgets, monitor expenditures, and identify opportunities to reduce costs without compromising safety or reliability.
• Maintain adequate inventory levels of spares and consumables, facilitate timely procurement, conduct technical evaluations of supplier quotations, and assist in purchase requisitions.
• Ensure strict compliance with environmental laws, safety regulations, and corporate/site-specific procedures through audits and risk assessments, initiating improvement programs as necessary.
• Keep comprehensive records of maintenance activities, equipment performance, and stock levels; generate detailed management reports on maintenance outcomes and projects.
• Develop, implement, and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess maintenance effectiveness.
• Drive continuous improvement by incorporating industry advancements and best maintenance practices.
• Pre-Commercial Operations Date (Pre-PCOD) Responsibilities: Assist the Owner during design review, installation, commissioning, testing, and trial operation phases.
• Review and finalize operation and maintenance manuals and initial spare parts lists.
• Develop the Master Equipment List and implement Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
• Establish spares and maintenance strategies based on equipment criticality studies.
• Create site-specific maintenance procedures and work instructions, ensuring maintenance team authorization as permit receivers.
• Manage subcontract placements and ensure operational readiness through staff training and system/process preparation.
• Guarantee the plant complies with design, construction, commissioning, and testing as per the EPC contract and project agreements.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent field.
• At least 10 years of pertinent experience in mechanical maintenance within large-scale combined cycle power plants; familiarity with Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and Siemens gas turbines is preferred.
• Demonstrated leadership skills with a track record of managing maintenance teams effectively, accompanied by excellent interpersonal and communication capabilities.
• Deep technical knowledge in mechanical maintenance systems, reliability engineering, and condition monitoring techniques.
• Proficiency in maintenance management software (CMMS) alongside Microsoft Office applications.
