Job Overview

The Terminal Operator plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient loading and unloading of road tankers at a fuel terminal. Primarily stationed at the loading gantry, the operator is responsible for preparing tankers, handling loading arms, pumps, and metering devices, while strictly adhering to company protocols. This position also encompasses supporting terminal duties related to product receipt, storage, tank gauging, routine equipment checks, and accurate record maintenance, all conducted in alignment with health, safety, and environmental regulations.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute loading and unloading of road tankers following company safety and operational procedures.
• Confirm tanker paperwork, driver authorization, compartment assignments, and sealing before and after transfers.
• Attach/detach loading arms and hoses; ensure grounding/bonding and overfill safety mechanisms are in place.
• Operate loading platform tools such as pumps and meters to monitor transfer quantities precisely.
• Immediately halt operations if irregularities like leaks or alarms occur during fuel handling.
• Complete all associated paperwork, including meter tickets and delivery documentation promptly and accurately.
• Manage terminal equipment usage, including pumps, valves, and pipelines, for product intake, transfer, and dispatch.
• Configure pipelines and valves appropriately for scheduled product movements.
• Conduct measurements of storage tanks, documenting levels and temperatures, and report anomalies.
• Collect fuel samples and perform basic quality verifications as requested.
• Support inventory reconciliation and maintain stock movement records.
• Carry out routine inspections of terminal equipment such as pumps, loading racks, meters, generators, and firefighting apparatus.
• Report any equipment faults or fuel leaks immediately and support maintenance activities.
• Keep the terminal and surrounding areas clean and orderly.
• Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental guidelines, including using appropriate personal protective equipment.
• Participate actively in safety meetings, emergency drills, and promptly report unsafe conditions or incidents.
• Record operational data daily, including tank and meter readings, shift logs, and checklists, ensuring timely and accurate submissions.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• High school diploma or a technical diploma in mechanical, electrical, industrial, or related fields.
• At least 2 to 3 years of experience in fuel terminals, tank farms, depots, or petroleum storage environments.
• Practical experience with road tanker loading and unloading at racks or gantries is preferred.

• In-depth understanding of petroleum terminal operations with emphasis on tanker loading and unloading processes.
• Proficiency in handling pumps, valves, loading racks, and fuel transfer systems.
• Basic knowledge of tank gauging techniques and stock control management.
• Strong grasp of HSE standards specifically within the oil and gas sector.
• Fundamental computer skills for reporting purposes.
• Effective communication, teamwork ability, and capability to work safely under stress while following operational procedures.
• Physical fitness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
