Role Overview
We seek an experienced Supervisor to lead field teams working on Transpower maintenance contracts across New Zealand’s lower North Island, with locations in Hawke's Bay or Palmerston North. This role blends technical expertise with people management and operational oversight, ensuring maintenance and minor projects on substations and related high voltage assets are safely and efficiently completed to quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and support approximately 16-17 electricians and field staff engaged in high voltage asset maintenance.
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate maintenance tasks and minor projects across multiple sites and workstreams.
- Conduct field visits constituting roughly one-third of the role to assist teams and verify workmanship quality.
- Lead, coach, and mentor field personnel to promote high performance and technical competence.
- Ensure strict compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.
- Perform regular site inspections and quality assurance activities.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance processes and operational efficiency.
- Monitor work progress, complete required reporting, and ensure projects conclude on schedule.
- Foster strong relationships with internal colleagues and external stakeholders.
Candidate Requirements
- Current Electrical Workers Registration Board (EWRB) registration is essential.
- Solid experience in the electrical industry, preferably within high voltage environments such as substations, utilities, industrial or commercial sectors.
- Demonstrated leadership or supervisory skills with the ability to manage teams effectively.
- Strong organizational capabilities including planning, scheduling, and reporting proficiency supported by good computer literacy.
- A commitment to safety leadership and delivering quality results.
- Innovative mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Flexibility to travel and participate in an on-call roster, including overnight stays as project demands require.
Travel and On-Call Details
- Position located in Hawke's Bay or Bunnythorpe.
- On-call responsibilities: Bunnythorpe approximately every 1 in 5 to 1 in 6 weeks; Hawke's Bay currently 1 in 3 weeks, potentially moving to 1 in 4 or 1 in 5 weeks.
- Occasional travel and overnight accommodation may be required, ranging from single-night to multi-week stays based on projects.
