Job Purpose

The Strata Control Officer is responsible for overseeing the stability of underground geological formations in coal mining operations by conducting continuous monitoring and data-driven safety evaluations.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up and maintain strata monitoring instruments such as extensometers, convergence meters, and borehole pressure sensors to detect ground displacement and stress variations.
• Perform regular data collection and thorough analysis to identify ground movement patterns and potential safety risks.
• Carry out risk evaluations based on monitoring outputs to identify hazards, enabling preventative interventions.
• Generate and communicate detailed reports with risk assessments and recommendations to mining management for informed decision-making.
• Ensure all monitoring procedures comply with relevant safety regulations including the Coal Mines Regulations (2017) and Metalliferous Mines Regulations (1961).
• Maintain precise documentation of monitoring data and assessments to monitor trends and regulatory adherence.

Stakeholder Interaction

Coordinate with internal groups such as Mine Operations, ERC, and Project Construction/ES teams, as well as external bodies including regulatory authorities, equipment vendors, industry consultants, and environmental agencies.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related disciplines, providing essential geological science knowledge.
• Master’s degree or higher in Geology or Geotechnical Engineering preferred to enhance specialized expertise.
• Professional certifications such as Professional Geologist (PG), Professional Engineer (PE), Certified Engineering Geologist (CEG), along with appropriate safety certifications.
• Minimum of 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience in relevant strata monitoring or geological roles.
