Role Overview

The Lead Field Officer will oversee activities at a satellite office within Mbale, managing field teams to ensure efficient chlorine delivery, dispenser maintenance, and community engagement. Reporting to the Associate Area Coordinator-SWN, the Lead Field Officer will provide training, mentorship, and operational support to sustain program performance in water sanitation initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise all operations within satellite offices or supported locations.
• Manage Officers, Community Service Assistants (CSAs), and other field personnel.
• Oversee chlorine delivery schedules and dispenser maintenance checks.
• Ensure dispenser installations by coordinating materials and teams.
• Train, guide, and mentor field staff including masons and officers.
• Conduct community leader meetings and government sensitization forums.
• Manage nominations, verifications, and administer field surveys on non-installation days.
• Perform basic dispenser repairs using hand tools.
• Develop weekly plans and reports tracking activities such as chlorine delivery and promotional events.
• Administer funds according to finance policies for daily office and field activities.
• Manage data collection and administration via smartphone technology.
• Engage senior health officials and clinic managers for program feedback and follow-ups.
• Hold feedback meetings to continually improve team performance.
• Maintain organizational assets including motorbikes with attention to maintenance and usage.
• Undertake additional responsibilities assigned by the Associate Area Coordinator.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in social work, development studies, public health, or related fields.
• Minimum two years of related professional experience.
• Valid Class A motorcycle license and proficient riding skills.
• Prior experience leading or participating in a high-performing project team.
• Strong problem-solving skills with an ability to identify gaps and collaborate across teams.
• Ability to manage complex workplans, prioritize tasks, delegate, and monitor team objectives.
• Proficient in technology and database management, including Microsoft Office and Google suites.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of Lugisu local dialect is advantageous.
• Willingness to travel to remote field locations as necessary.

Location and Work Conditions

This position is based out of the Mbale Main Office and various field offices within Mbale. Candidates must be authorized to work legally in Uganda as visa sponsorship is not available.
