Role Summary
The Finance Officer will ensure accurate financial reporting by recording and verifying transactions, maintaining document safety, and safeguarding confidential information in line with organizational values. Reporting to the Associate Accountant and Country Finance Lead, this role bridges field and country programs to facilitate efficient financial management.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage staff advances by ensuring use aligns with schedules, verifying timely submission and completeness of accountabilities, and providing regular status updates.
- Oversee petty cash by validating expenditures, tracking efficient use, ensuring secure storage, and submitting cash counts and replenishment requests weekly.
- Maintain asset and fuel management by safeguarding vehicles and office equipment, updating asset registers, generating monthly reports, and supporting fuel monitoring.
- Assist financial procedures by verifying payment documents, monitoring fund utilization by field teams, ensuring compliance with policies, and reviewing budget adherence and activity plans.
- Support team coordination through ongoing communication with finance and program leads to assess training needs and represent finance in program meetings.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration (Accounting/Finance major), Commerce, Accounting, or Finance.
- Progress towards CPA or ACCA certification is advantageous.
- At least 2 to 3 years of experience with accounting systems in reputable organizations, preferably NGOs.
- Solid knowledge of finance best practices within NGOs and report writing capabilities.
- Strong professionalism, integrity, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
- Effective English communication and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to multitask, handle challenges diplomatically, and work both independently and collaboratively.
- Adaptable to a dynamic, diverse environment.
Working Conditions
Regular work hours are 8 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday, though flexibility is needed to work beyond these hours and weekends as necessary. The role requires good physical and mental fitness due to its demanding nature.
Location and Eligibility
This position is based in Bugiri, Uganda. Candidates must have legal authorization to work in Uganda as visa sponsorship is not available.
