Facilities Assistant

Role overview

Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust is looking for a Facilities Assistant to support the Facilities Management team. The role combines cleaning, catering, and patient support duties, helping keep the hospital environment safe, clean, and well-organised.

This position requires consistent respect for patient privacy, dignity, and confidentiality at all times.

What you will do

• Work closely with hospital staff, patients, members of the public, external contacts, the Facilities Manager, Matron, ward managers, ward teams, and other Trust colleagues.
• Carry out tasks independently and follow the schedules arranged by the facilities management team.
• Decide the order of work within local procedures, priorities, and patient needs.
• Complete regular and occasional cleaning tasks, including infection prevention and control procedures.
• Follow the Trust Cleaning Method Statement Manual in full.
• Prepare and deliver food to patients, visitors, and staff when requested.
• Carry out duties in line with Trust policies and food safety guidance, including HACCP requirements.
• Provide collection and delivery support for relevant service departments.
• Handle linen for wards and associated areas, along with other laundry-related work.
• Help unload supplies, store them correctly, and distribute them to departments.
• Use the appropriate PPE, which may include gloves, aprons, masks, headwear, and other required items.
• Report pest issues, broken equipment, and any repairs that are needed.
