About The TEAK Fellowship
The TEAK Fellowship provides a decade-long program serving New York City students from under-resourced areas, offering rigorous after-school and summer academics, enriching cultural experiences, guidance for secondary and higher education, internships, and comprehensive support. Graduates gain admission and financial aid at leading academic institutions nationwide and develop leadership skills to impact their communities positively.
Position Overview
The TEAK Fellowship is seeking a skilled writing teacher to instruct middle or high school students, specifically 7th graders, during the Fall semester of 2026. Instructors will collaborate as part of a team to deliver the curriculum effectively across multiple locations in Manhattan, Bronx, and Queens. Candidates should specify their preferred teaching site in their application.
Responsibilities
- Deliver one writing class section to 7th or 8th-grade students for a 12-week period, September through December 2026.
- Conduct 70 minutes of instruction weekly, scheduled on Tuesdays or Thursdays from 4:45 PM to 6:15 PM (exact dates to be confirmed).
- Utilize Google Classroom to assign approximately one hour of homework each week and grade submitted assignments promptly.
- Participate in a pre-semester orientation session for new instructors.
- Join a weekly 30-minute planning meeting to coordinate teaching efforts.
- Prepare and submit midterm and final grades, including detailed comments on student writing progress.
