Job description

About Assembly Four

Assembly Four is a rapidly growing purpose-driven technology firm committed to creating positive change within the sex work, human rights, LGBTQIA+, and related communities. We prioritize impact alongside profit and collaborate globally with sex workers to develop empowering products and services designed to help them not just survive, but thrive. We believe in the fundamental human right to bodily autonomy free from violence and discrimination.

Role Overview

As a Senior Product Designer, you will guide the full product design lifecycle from discovery through delivery, connecting user needs with design, product management, and engineering teams. Serving as a key leader and partner within a close-knit trio, you will promote effective teamwork, design excellence, cross-functional collaboration, and maintain a strong user-centered design approach across both community-facing products and internal tools.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop design plans outlining activities, sequencing, deliverables, and review points.
  • Conduct user experience research including interviews, usability testing, and surveys focused on platform users.
  • Convert research data into actionable insights that inform design directions and product strategies.
  • Create and refine prototypes to validate concepts and define MVP requirements, iterating based on feedback.
  • Collaborate with product management and engineering teams to incorporate rapid iterations into delivery schedules.
  • Design accessible, inclusive user interfaces reflecting user needs and product objectives.
  • Produce prototypes, user flows, and visual designs ready for implementation, grounded in UX insights.
  • Maintain consistency, usability, and accessibility across products and support scalable collaboration with front-end engineers.
  • Apply evidence-based and inclusive design practices widely within the platform group to solve complex problems with user-led methods.
  • Guide stakeholders in adopting user-centered thinking within prioritization, delivery, and iteration processes.
  • Identify and resolve design workflow blockers, knowledge gaps, or missed opportunities for user involvement.
  • Foster strong collaboration with product managers and engineers to ensure quality handoff, feasibility, and design alignment.
  • Engage with internal teams (CX, Trust and Safety, Marketing) and external partners and users to ensure user context and community values inform design choices.

Candidate Profile

  • Proven experience designing digital products, platforms, or SaaS solutions.
  • Advanced skills in UX and UI design tools with a portfolio demonstrating clear, impactful, visually appealing design work.
  • Proficiency in Figma, FigJam, and research platforms enabling rapid prototyping and testing.
  • Experience leveraging existing design systems.
  • Familiarity with project management tools such as Notion and Linear.
  • Excellent communication skills adaptable to diverse audiences, capable of simplifying complex problems into precise briefs.
  • Comfortable working asynchronously with a distributed, remote team.
  • High adaptability to ambiguous or evolving project requirements.
  • Interest or experience designing for marginalized or stigmatized populations, with a strong emphasis on empathy, privacy, and safety-first design principles.

Preferred Additional Qualifications

  • Direct experience or willingness to engage with marginalized groups, including sex workers, neurodivergent individuals, and persons with disabilities.
  • Knowledge or experience related to sex work.
  • Experience in startup environments and fully remote work.
  • Familiarity with bootstrapped or capital-efficient business models over VC-funded cultures.

Benefits and Culture

  • Flexible 4-day (32-hour) work week with full salary and accrual time off for additional hours.
  • Competitive remuneration starting at $158,000 NZD plus superannuation based on experience and skills.
  • Completely remote work with a stipend for home office setup.
  • Wellness-focused benefits including stipends and mental health support.
  • Generous leave policies consisting of 4 weeks annual leave, 4 weeks personal/carer’s leave, flexible public holidays, and unpaid leave options.
  • Profit-sharing program distributing a portion of annual profits to team members when profitable.
  • Paid parental leave with supportive policies for family needs and reintegration to work.

Diversity Commitment

Assembly Four values diverse perspectives as crucial to innovation and excellence. Understanding potential candidates from underrepresented backgrounds may hesitate to apply if not meeting all criteria, we actively encourage all interested individuals to apply and help us realize our vision for social change.

Additional Information

This is a permanent, fully remote position available to residents of Australia and New Zealand (excluding South Australia and Tasmania). Candidates must have legal work rights in Australia or New Zealand.
