About the Role
This full-time, permanent position is based in Kerikeri or Kaitaia within the Te Tai Tokerau region. The Senior Education Advisor collaborates directly with school principals, senior leadership, and Boards of Trustees to enhance educational performance across schools and kura. The role involves providing access to expertise, programs, and resources to support learners in achieving their full potential. Working with the regional Ministry of Education team, the advisor utilizes evidence and student achievement data to design and implement initiatives that bolster educational outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with school leaders and boards to improve education quality and outcomes.
- Analyze student achievement data to identify needs and priorities.
- Design and carry out projects aimed at strengthening educational performance.
- Ensure sector leaders and communities have access to necessary expertise and resources.
Candidate Profile
- Hold a relevant tertiary qualification or possess equivalent practical experience.
- Demonstrate strong analytical skills, particularly with student achievement data.
- Experience in project development and implementation within education.
- Ability to forge strong collaborative relationships both inside and outside the Ministry.
- Comprehensive knowledge of New Zealand's education systems and associated legislation.
- Understanding of te reo Māori and tikanga Māori.
- Experience contributing to student success in both English and Māori-medium educational settings.
- Insight into factors influencing learner participation and achievement.
- Familiarity with National Education and Learner Priorities (NELP), Ka Hikitia, the Action Plan for Pacific Education, and Success for All and their application.
- Capability to apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangatawhenuatanga in educational contexts.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to work across diverse environments.
- Possession of a current full driver's license.
- Commitment to adhering to Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.

The Education Services Group delivers integrated and well-structured education services to support the effective operation of educational settings, aiming to enhance student achievement and participation. The group focuses on removing barriers to learning, providing regulatory advice, and supporting early learning providers, schools, and kura.

- Managing practice and guidance for consistent national coordination and regional autonomy in education service delivery.
- Providing direct education support through integrated regional and national services, including necessary interventions to uphold high operational standards.
- Monitoring and advising on the improvement of service effectiveness, efficiency, equity, and regulatory compliance.
Additional Information
Salary ranges between NZD 85,225 and 103,071 annually plus KiwiSaver contributions, with final salary reflecting applicant’s skills and experience.
