Role Overview
This full-time onsite position in Hamilton, Ontario focuses on managing import documentation, checking compliance details, and supporting customs entry work for shipments moving between Canada and the United States.
Key Duties
- Handle incoming paperwork, begin the logging workflow, verify that the information meets Canadian and U.S. customs standards, complete document processing, close out billing, and send records to the relevant parties.
- Track shipment updates through daily monitoring reports, confirm that required measurement standards are being met, and flag any exceptions without delay.
- Investigate and interpret CBSA rules related to USMCA, D/T, GST, and other import entry needs.
- Stay current on new government agency compliance rules and work them into day-to-day procedures and standard operating practices.
- Check tariff classifications for correctness and coordinate fixes whenever discrepancies are found.
Requirements
- A four-year BS/BA degree is preferred, though it is not mandatory.
- A Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) credential or compliance diploma is preferred.
- At least 2 years of experience in import trafficking work with a freight forwarder or broker is preferred.
- 2 to 3 years of customer service experience is preferred.
- The role calls for the ability to thrive in a fast-moving environment.
- Strong communication, organization, and accuracy skills are required.
- Teamwork capability and prior leadership exposure are highly valued.
- The candidate should be comfortable learning and using different computer applications.
