Role Overview
The Cashier position, graded as AM-II, falls under the Branch Banking department, located at the branch premises. Reporting directly to the Branch Operation Manager, this full-time role involves managing all cash-related transactions and operations following both internal and external banking protocols. The incumbent is also responsible for maintaining relevant registers and conducting end-of-day reconciliation within the bank's system.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure smooth running of branch cash operations through timely and accurate processing of cash transactions and maintenance of accounts.
- Take charge of various cash handling tasks such as receipt and processing of instruments like cheques, drafts, dividend warrants, pay orders up to authorized limits, providing proper acknowledgments.
- Disburse cash for withdrawal requests and accept cash deposits against challans efficiently.
- Collect repayment amounts as per EMI schedules and update system records accordingly.
- Maintain registers including inward/outward, petty cash, and assets, forwarding requisition forms to the Regional Head Office as required.
- Perform daily cash tallying consistent with transaction books and vouchers, reporting results in the end-of-day branch report.
- Manage branch vault operations and cash handling jointly with the operations officer, ensuring security and compliance.
- Engage with customers during cash transactions, understanding their needs, identifying cross-selling opportunities, and informing them about new products and services.
- Deliver excellent customer service by addressing queries and grievances promptly, explaining repayment schedules and contact details, and guiding customers to use alternate channels for transactions.
- Count and verify cash at the start and close of day before vaulting procedures.
- Safeguard branch cash, keys, and valuables jointly with the Assistant Branch Manager, ensuring smooth cash department operations.
- Adhere strictly to defined turnaround times (TAT) for all transactions and comply with bank policies and regulatory requirements for cashier and cash management processes.
- Verify loan repayment transactions and authenticate customers during withdrawals.
- Ensure cash deposit slips are accurate as per audit standards.
- Update bank passbooks when transactions occur.
- Prepare cash bundles for currency chest deposits accompanied by note slips.
Learning & Performance
- Keep updated on Ujjivan’s product offerings, regulatory guidelines, and KYC principles.
- Complete certification and mandatory training programs organized by the operations department.
- Participate in goal setting, mid-year reviews, and performance appraisals within designated timelines.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Any undergraduate degree, preferably in Finance or Commerce.
- Experience of 1-2 years handling cash in high volume environments.
- Familiarity with entering data in financial modules or ERP systems.
- Proven ability to consolidate accounting data effectively.
- Strong cash handling and accounting expertise with the skill to identify counterfeit notes.
- Systematic, detail-oriented approach paired with prompt customer service.
- Effective time management, multitasking capabilities, and strong numerical aptitude.
- Basic computer literacy with relevant software skills (training provided).
- Positive interpersonal and communication skills oriented toward superior customer service.
Interactions
- Works closely with regional operations team, regional FCU officer, service quality executives, neighboring banks, cash management agencies, and BC agents.
