About the Role
The Niagara Falls Bridge Commission (NFBC) manages and operates the Rainbow Bridge, Whirlpool Rapids (Lower), and Lewiston-Queenston Bridges. Our core mission is to build, maintain, and oversee border crossings along the lower Niagara River that ensure safe, sustainable, and efficient transit of people and cargo.
As a Bridge Attendant, you will be engaged in activities across both the Maintenance and Toll/Traffic Departments at any of the NFBC-operated bridges. Your role may also include supervisory responsibilities when delegated.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out routine housekeeping tasks including sweeping, mopping, waxing, dusting, and emptying wastebaskets.
- Operate snow removal machinery to maintain safe working conditions.
- Conduct basic maintenance such as plumbing, electrical work, and carpentry; provide preventive upkeep and repair faulty equipment like fans, pumps, and valves.
- Perform landscaping duties such as mowing grass, trimming, planting, pruning, and weeding.
- Accurately classify, document, and collect tolls from bridge users.
- Manage and direct traffic flow, including stopping, holding, or redirecting vehicles as necessary.
- Supervise all aspects of toll shifts to ensure smooth operations.
- Coordinate and liaise with Customs officials and other authorities when required.
- Work at all NFBC locations as needed.
Required Qualifications and Conditions
- Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent credential.
- Preferably two years of general maintenance experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Valid and clean driver’s license.
- Holder of a Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or ability to obtain it within the probation period.
- Willingness to work shift schedules encompassing a full 24/7 operational environment.
- Successful completion of pre-employment evaluations including physical exam, drug and alcohol testing, and background checks.
- Ability to freely cross international borders and maintain necessary security clearances.
- Capability to work indoors and outdoors, including at heights, underneath bridge decks, and on aerial lifts.
