Job Purpose
The role of the Screener is to guarantee the secure and effective inspection of hold baggage, ensuring adherence to regulatory mandates while identifying prohibited items and security risks. Responsibilities include managing screening hardware, logging findings, cooperating with security teams, and engaging passengers to maintain prime security standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in all required regulatory training sessions and successfully complete certification exams.
- Operate X-BIS screening devices to analyze hold baggage images for contraband, hazardous goods, arms, or ammunition per security circulars, guidelines, and standard operating procedures.
- Conduct manual baggage checks and Explosive Trace Detector (ETD) tests for flagged luggage.
- Maintain excellent Threat Image Projection (TIP) performance metrics to demonstrate keen image analysis skills.
- Strictly follow BCAS and DGCA aviation security directives for baggage screening procedures.
- Document all inspections and outcomes thoroughly to satisfy auditing and compliance mandates.
- Perform routine functionality and readiness checks of security equipment including X-BIS, ETD, and CT-EDS, reporting any faults or malfunctions.
- Collaborate with CISF officers and airline personnel during physical baggage inspection and incident resolution processes.
- Keep supervisors informed on operational status and any security issues requiring attention.
- Manage time effectively to complete screening tasks within mandated deadlines without compromising safety.
- Maintain professional conduct, discipline, and uphold organizational policies and workplace decorum consistently.
Stakeholder Coordination
- Work with internal teams including CSO, Audit & Compliance leads, Pass Section, ILHBS leadership, Terminal Operations, IT, HR, and Compliance & Regulatory departments.
- Engage with external entities such as TSA, aircraft operators, airport authorities, passengers, ASG, BCAS, local police, service providers, law enforcement, regulatory bodies, and industry groups.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum education: High school diploma or equivalent; bachelor's degree or equivalent preferred.
- Certifications required: TSA certification mandatory; preferred are BCAS AVSEC basic course completion, BCAS standalone or inline screener certification, and DGCA CAT 12 Dangerous Goods certification from an authorized center.
- NCC 'C' or 'B' certificate holders will be given preference.
- Experience: Freshers or candidates with 1-2 years in security screening or related roles, ideally in an airport environment.
- Proficiency operating screening technology and familiarity with security guidelines are expected.
Physical and Sensory Requirements
- Vision: Minimum eyesight of 20/60 in both eyes without correction, or 20/20 in one eye and 20/30 in the other with glasses or contacts; adequate color vision required.
- Hearing: Hearing loss less than 30 dB below 2000 Hz frequency as measured audiometrically.
- Speech: Must communicate verbally clearly and effectively.
- Mobility: No significant speech impediments affecting crisis communications.
- Olfactory: Ability to detect odors as necessary for security tasks.
- Appearance and Conduct: Must display high levels of civility, deportment, professional appearance, sobriety, and offer courteous service to the public.
