Manager - Estimation and Quantity Surveying

Position Overview

The Manager - Estimation & Quantity (E&Q) is responsible for managing all aspects of quantity surveying, cost estimation, Bill of Quantities (BOQ) preparation, and analysis of material usage across multiple manufacturing lines specializing in bespoke luxury furniture production at our Daman factory.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Analyze CAD and 3D technical drawings along with prototype specifications to derive precise measurements and details.
• Create detailed and accurate Bills of Quantities and Materials for custom and modular high-end furniture ranges.
• Determine yield rates and calculate wastage for premium materials such as wood, veneers, upholstery, metals, and coatings.
• Estimate costs for standard production batches, bespoke orders, and prototype models.
• Collaborate with design and R&D teams to establish baseline BOMs during prototyping.
• Monitor actual material consumption against BOM and identify any deviations to reduce waste.
• Enforce standardized operating procedures to ensure raw materials are used strictly according to estimates.
• Work closely with procurement to obtain accurate pricing and analyze vendor quotations for cost optimization.
• Identify value engineering possibilities to lower production costs without compromising quality or structural strength.
• Coordinate with stores and production feeders to maintain material availability aligned with manufacturing schedules.
• Estimate labor hours, machinery cycles, and other operational costs collaboratively with production leads.
• Verify subcontractor billings, labor payments, and work claims against completed tasks.
• Generate cost variance reports, forecasts, and performance metrics for senior management review.

Key Performance Indicators

• Maintain estimation accuracy with variance in BOM cost within ±2–3% of actual production costs.
• Reduce waste of costly raw materials like wood, veneer, and leather to a minimum.
• Ensure timely preparation of BOMs for prototype launches and customized orders.
• Achieve cost savings through value engineering and negotiating favorable vendor terms.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor's degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Wood Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Interior Architecture, or related disciplines.
• Between 5 to 8 years of direct experience in Estimation & Quantity Surveying within luxury furniture manufacturing, premium joinery, or high-end interior execution projects.
• Deep familiarity with reading complex technical drawings including shop, CAD, and exploded assembly diagrams.
• Comprehensive knowledge of luxury furniture materials—hardwoods, engineered woods, veneers, laminates, fine fabrics, metals, glass, stone, and specialty coatings.
• Proficiency with ERP platforms such as SAP or Oracle, advanced MS Excel skills, and specialized estimation software.
• High attention to detail coupled with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
• Excellent interpersonal communication and negotiation skills with cross-functional teams.
• Commercially astute with the ability to identify cost efficiencies and quality maintenance opportunities.

Additional Information

• Reporting directly to Head of Department.
• Travel requirements arise occasionally as needed.
