About the Role
The Outbound Business Development Representative (BDR) focuses on generating a fresh pipeline of sales prospects by proactively contacting targeted accounts through strategic outbound efforts. This role involves identifying and engaging high-value potential customers across specified industries and priority accounts in New Zealand via personalized communications, supporting market expansion and new client acquisition initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Initiate new sales opportunities through targeted outreach including cold calling, customized emails, LinkedIn prospecting, and social engagement.
- Identify and connect with key decision-makers within target companies.
- Build and continuously maintain a pipeline of qualified prospects.
- Implement account-based prospecting programs aligned with prioritized target accounts, collaborating with ABM and Field Marketing managers as well as Sales teams.
- Develop and execute personalized outreach strategies based on industry focus, ideal customer profiles, and signals of buying readiness.
- Arrange well-qualified meetings between prospects and sales personnel, ensuring alignment with established customer profiles and preparing sales executives with necessary context.
- Research market trends, challenges, and business opportunities relevant to accounts to enhance prospect engagement.
- Coordinate with marketing on campaigns, event follow-ups, and webinars to engage target accounts and increase meeting generation.
- Maintain accurate records of activities and prospects in Salesforce and sales engagement platforms.
- Monitor performance metrics including outreach activity, meetings booked, opportunities created, and pipeline value, optimizing outreach methods for better results.
Success Indicators
- Consistent creation of new sales opportunities within target accounts demonstrated by penetration and conversion rates.
- Reliable contribution to sales pipeline through outbound prospecting, achieving monthly meeting and opportunity goals.
- Positive collaboration with marketing to maximize campaign impact through feedback and engagement.
- High activity levels producing quality meetings and qualified opportunities, meeting ratios such as activity to meeting booked >10%, meeting booked to opportunity >30%, and overall activity to opportunity conversion of 3%.
Requirements
- Between 1 to 3 years experience in sales development, business development, or outbound prospecting roles.
- Demonstrated track record of securing meetings through active outreach strategies.
- Prior exposure to B2B SaaS or technology sectors, ideally targeting mid-market or enterprise customers.
- Excellent communication and storytelling capabilities.
- Skill in researching prospects, personalizing outreach, and confidently engaging various organizational levels.
- Resilience, self-motivation, and a focus on achieving results.
- Familiarity with CRM platforms such as Salesforce or HubSpot, and sales engagement tools like Outreach or Salesloft.
