Overview
We are seeking an energetic and practical electrical engineer to join the Geartrain Manufacturing Team focused on designing and developing production lines for geartrain actuators within Optimus. This position demands excellent engineering and physics knowledge combined with hands-on experience and a passion for manufacturing equipment and process development. Candidates should be organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-evolving environment with strong analytical and practical engineering capabilities. Travel, both domestic and international, of approximately 20-25% will be required.
Key Responsibilities
- Create fully automated manufacturing lines from fundamental concepts, focusing on cost efficiency, lead time reduction, and minimizing complexity.
- Research, select, and integrate electrical testing equipment such as power supplies, sensors, measurement tools, and I/O devices to validate manufacturing systems before and during production.
- Design and review industrial electrical control panels compliant with NFPA79, NEC, and UL508A standards.
- Develop and implement safety systems in line with OSHA and ISO standards for high-voltage and mechanical hazards.
- Troubleshoot and enhance automated processes to improve reliability, reduce cycle durations, and maximize operational uptime.
- Utilize statistical techniques such as Gauge Repeatability and Reproducibility (GR&R) and process capability index (Cpk) to assess manufacturing equipment and validation tests.
- Review and finalize electrical scopes for machinery and entire production lines considering line layouts.
- Use EPLAN software for electrical design and development tasks.
- Examine electrical schematics and compute power requirements for production equipment and components.
- Design and implement equipment safety measures compliant with international/local codes and company standards.
Qualifications
- Educational background in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Minimum five years of experience in controls, mechatronics, testing, or automation engineering with hands-on involvement.
- Proven experience specifying and working with electrical test hardware such as power supplies, multimeters, oscilloscopes, and power analyzers.
- Proficiency in creating detailed machine schematics using EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical, or similar CAD tools.
- Exposure to automation practices within industrial or manufacturing settings.
