Overview
This role is aimed at maintaining a safe, clean, and conducive environment for students to learn and thrive within the school premises. The custodian will perform varied cleaning and maintenance tasks, ensuring facilities are inviting and operational.
Qualifications
- A High School diploma is preferred, though alternatives deemed suitable by the Board may be accepted.
- Basic understanding of custodial processes and methods.
- Demonstrated ability or competence to perform assigned responsibilities effectively.
Reporting Structure
The custodian will report directly to the Executive Director of Operations and respective school Principals.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Carry out routine custodial activities such as dusting, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning restrooms, and replenishing cleaning materials.
- Timely request cleaning supplies to avoid disrupting duties.
- Identify and report maintenance needs related to custodial equipment and supplies to the warehouse manager.
- Dispose of trash appropriately by emptying bins, bagging waste, and transporting to designated compactors or dumpsters within classroom or office areas.
- Secure all doors by unlocking before and locking after cleaning sessions.
- Communicate any concerns or needs to relevant personnel, including suggesting maintenance requests or managing supply inventories.
- Maintain proper care and upkeep of equipment and supplies, promoting workplace safety and environmental best practices.
- Assist with onboarding and training new janitorial staff in routine procedures.
- Perform cleaning tasks tailored to facility-specific or seasonal/project needs.
- Contribute to external tasks such as snow removal, minor maintenance, and furniture arrangement as directed.
- Inspect the US flag regularly and request replacement when it is worn or weathered.
- Ensure building security at closing by verifying doors and windows are properly locked and closed.
- Relocate furniture or items within the building as required by principals or building managers.
- Fulfill other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Physical and Working Conditions
- The job involves extensive physical labor including lifting, pushing, and pulling items that may weigh up to 50 pounds routinely and occasionally up to 90 pounds.
- Work settings include indoor environments and occasional outdoor exposure to challenging elements like dirt, dust, fumes, varying temperatures, and loud noises.
- Employees must adhere to safety protocols due to potential hazards and use appropriate protective measures.
- Physical activities frequently include standing, walking, handling objects, squatting, stooping, kneeling, and reaching.
Employment Terms
This is a full-time position based on a twelve-month employment cycle. Salary and specific work schedule will be determined by the Board. Employment is contingent upon passing a criminal background check.
Performance Evaluation
The custodian’s work will be reviewed according to the Board's support personnel evaluation policies.
