About the Role
The Immigration Compliance & Investigations (ICI) team within Te Whakatairanga Service Delivery plays a crucial role in preventing and addressing immigration-related offenses and non-compliance. The team provides products and services that support sound decision-making across the organisation, effectively managing risks early in the immigration process.
As a Compliance Officer, you will hold a regulatory position that promotes adherence to New Zealand immigration laws and policies. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with colleagues and leadership to deliver optimal results in compliance and criminal enforcement related to immigration.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Engage in a broad range of compliance activities, including intercepting individuals who have overstayed or violated their visa conditions.
- Investigate and manage cases involving individuals and employers breaching immigration legislation.
- Specifically focus on issues related to Migrant Exploitation.
- Utilise delegated powers—including entry, search, and detention—to carry out enforcement activities.
- Perform duties that may require outdoor activity and therefore a reasonable level of physical fitness.
Required Skills and Experience
- Strong investigative abilities to locate individuals subject to deportation.
- Excellent organisational skills with the capacity to prioritise and multitask effectively to manage deportations and compliance with legislative requirements.
- Sound decision-making capabilities, experience in handling sensitive issues, risk management, and preferably knowledge of immigration law and policies.
- Effective communication skills that facilitate engagement with people from diverse cultures, often in high-pressure or tense circumstances.
- Flexibility to travel at short notice within New Zealand as necessary.
- Preferred qualifications include experience applying legislation, policy, procedures, and guidelines within a government regulatory context.
- Previous investigative and enforcement-compliance experience is a distinct advantage.

- Training and delegated enforcement powers will be provided.

Salary and Benefits
The salary range for this role is NZD 85,537 to NZD 101,911 annually, plus KiwiSaver contributions and wellness benefits.
