Role Overview

VAP Group is looking for a Chief Editor to lead Times of AI from Dubai in a hybrid full-time setup. This position owns the publication’s editorial direction, newsroom standards, and external representation, while also taking responsibility for the Global AI Show agenda.

Editorial Leadership

Shape and keep refining the editorial vision, tone, and overall content strategy so it aligns with audience expectations and the publication’s market positioning.
Exercise final editorial approval on major stories, investigations, exclusives, and any material that may involve legal, reputational, or ethical risk.
Establish and enforce the editorial policy, maintaining a clear boundary between editorial content, sponsored or press-release material, and advertising.
Own the yearly and quarterly content plan, making sure it balances breaking news, evergreen guides, market analysis, and thought-leadership pieces.
Oversee the full management and direction of the Global AI Show event agenda.

Team and Newsroom Management

Hire, coach, and manage the Managing Editor and other senior editorial team members.
Build a newsroom culture that is high-performing, accountable, and quality-driven.
Approve editorial hiring decisions, freelancer and contributor contracts, and the allocation of editorial budgets.

External Representation and Growth Alignment

Represent the publication in public-facing settings such as media appearances, industry panels, and strategic partnerships.
Develop and maintain relationships with event partners, PR agencies, exchanges, studios, and other vendors tied to the vertical.
Work closely with SEO, growth, and revenue teams to support traffic, engagement, and business outcomes while protecting editorial independence.
Track industry developments, competitor activity, and audience insights to uncover new topic areas and content formats such as video, newsletters, and social content.

Editorial Standards and Risk Control

Ensure accuracy, proper source handling, and fast correction processes across all published work.
Lead crisis-response and correction procedures when issues arise.

Requirements

The ideal candidate brings deep journalism experience, strong leadership capability, and the judgment needed to run a high-visibility digital publication.

At least 8 years of experience in journalism or editorial roles, including a minimum of 3 years in a senior editorial leadership position such as Editor-in-Chief, Chief Editor, or a similar role.
Demonstrated success in building or expanding a digital news publication, preferably in a fast-moving, technical, or niche subject area.
Strong editorial judgment, ethics, familiarity with AP or house style, and solid fact-checking and sourcing discipline.
Proven ability to lead people, including distributed editorial teams and freelance contributor groups.
Excellent written and spoken communication skills, with comfort speaking publicly on behalf of the brand.
Practical knowledge of WordPress publishing workflows, SEO basics, and content analytics platforms.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous senior-level editorial experience covering the same or a closely related vertical.
An established network of industry sources, spokespeople, and media contacts relevant to the beat.
Experience handling media partnerships with conferences and industry events.
Understanding of disclosure rules for sponsored content, press releases, and paid editorial coverage in digital media.

Editorial quality measured through accuracy, correction speed, and compliance with policy.
Audience growth through organic traffic, returning readership, and newsletter subscriber expansion.
Team performance through senior staff retention, consistent output, and quick response to breaking news.
Brand reputation through media mentions, secured event partnerships, and recognition within the industry.
