About the Role
This permanent full-time position involves contributing to the effective rubbish and recycling collection services in Hobart through the Waste Operations Team of the City Resilience Group. Positioned at Clearys Gates, this role is classified as Municipal Employee Level 4 under the Hobart City Council Enterprise Agreement 2024. The salary offered ranges from $70,141 to $71,981 per annum plus 13.5% superannuation.
Key Responsibilities
- Correctly empty and return mobile garbage and recycling bins to designated spots and clean up any spillage.
- Operate and maintain side and rear loading compaction collection vehicles and other plant and equipment.
- Carry out duties in line with Safe Work Method Statements, standard procedures, operational manuals, and instructions.
- Deliver high-quality customer service in all functional responsibilities.
- Communicate effectively with co-workers, contractors, and the public.
- Ensure all services comply with safety, efficiency, and environmental sustainability standards.
- Be a cooperative team member supporting continuous improvements within unit operations.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is a dependable, safety-conscious operator experienced with medium mobile plant, including side and rear loader waste vehicles. You should be able to work independently managing tasks according to maps, rosters, and daily work programs, maintaining respectful communication, and supporting a positive and safe workplace culture. Prior waste collection experience is advantageous.
Requirements
- Completion of Year 10 education, or a Certificate III in Waste Management or Asset Maintenance (Waste Operations), or a commitment to obtaining one within 12 months.
- Possession of a current Medium Rigid class driver license.
- Proven competence operating medium mobile plant.
- Experience driving side loader and rear loader vehicles.
- Ability to interpret maps, rosters, daily work programs, and run sheets.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication abilities, teamwork orientation, and customer-service skills.
- Availability for work during rostered and un-rostered weekends and public holidays.
