About the Role and Organization
BP's Supply, Trading & Shipping team for Asia Pacific and Middle East (ST&S APME) serves as the commercial hub for trading and supply of oil, gas, power, refinery and chemical feedstock, and currencies. The division acts as the primary purchaser and seller of spot cargoes, focusing on agility and innovation to sustain global energy flow. It offers support to other BP units with robust supply and trading services spanning Oil, Chemicals, Power, and Gas, complemented by various risk management instruments. The team pursues growth to become an industry-leading, profitable, safe, and environmentally and socially respectful trading organization.
We are recruiting a Trading Operator based in Singapore who will join the Trading Operations team, reporting to the Team Lead for Middle Distillates (GDIST). The role involves maximizing commercial value through execution of physical contracts, efficient inventory management, scheduling deliveries, and optimizing cargo and tanker movements.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure all operational activities comply fully with HSSE and operational standards.
- Coordinate with BP Shipping to align operations with company shipping policies.
- Collaborate with Contracts, Trade Control, Financial Operations, and Credit teams to confirm adherence to trading procedures.
- Schedule the logistics for movement of petroleum products to customers accurately and timely.
- Maintain up-to-date and precise records within relevant systems.
- Monitor stock levels at terminals regularly.
- Work alongside traders to roll out new trading strategies and enhance existing ones’ value.
- Manage and recover costs related to demurrage and oil loss proactively.
- Build and sustain strong relationships with third-party partners including terminals, shipping brokers, surveyors, and marketing entities.
- Deliver market intelligence to support analytics and aid traders’ market insights.
Candidate Profile and Requirements
- Demonstrated knowledge and ability to implement compliance and HSSE operations requirements.
- Strong understanding of domestic trading processes and required documentation.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to foster successful working relationships.
- Effective communication capabilities.
- A proactive, assertive team player mindset.
- Strong analytical ability coupled with commercial acumen.
- Previous experience in trading operations or bunkering preferred.
- Prior expertise in the middle distillates market is advantageous.
- Familiarity with energy trading industry practices.
- A university degree, diploma, or equivalent experience is preferred; however, demonstrated performance and behavioral competencies are prioritized over formal qualifications.
