About the Role
Dynacare is seeking a Technician to join the Laboratory Health Services Centre located at Brandon LHSC, 620 Dennis Street, Brandon, Manitoba. The position is classified as a Casual LHSC Technician and offers a variable working schedule. Compensation will be provided according to the Collective Agreement.
Job Summary
The Technician will be responsible for collecting high-quality blood samples and other patient specimens, performing routine patient tests, and ensuring adherence to Dynacare's mission and values. The role demands teamwork to foster a positive environment, maintain quality benchmarks, and deliver an exceptional experience to customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect venous and capillary blood specimens accurately and safely.
- Conduct routine laboratory procedures including urine collection and specimen preparation.
- Adhere strictly to protocols for handling infectious materials.
- Maintain precise documentation of all test outcomes and control data.
- Generate monthly quality control statistical reports.
- Carry out routine maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment.
- Observe all safety measures during the execution of duties.
- Perform any additional duties assigned by the supervisor.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Completion of a Laboratory Technician program or possess equivalent prior experience.
- Familiarity with medical terminology is advantageous.
- Proven experience in phlebotomy.
- Capability to multitask effectively while working cohesively within a team.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational capabilities.
- Ability to operate efficiently in a fast-paced work environment and independently.
- Exceptional communication skills.
Important Information
This position requires compliance with Articles 2 and 7 of the Collective Agreement concerning temporary roles, job postings, promotions, and transfers.
A current satisfactory Criminal Records Check including Vulnerable Sector Search, Child Abuse Registry Check, and Adult Abuse Registry Check are mandatory conditions for employment. The applicant is responsible for any fees associated with these checks. A security clearance is considered valid if completed within six months prior to employment commencement.
